Shame it couldn't work out where the final four teams could be Florida, Nashville, Phoenix and Washington.

In other news, Bobcats lost their 22nd-straight game tonight. Keep that type of play up and they'll literally force people to watch the Checkers instead of them.

If they lose tomorrow night (on national TV!), they'll be the worst team ever. Might as well make history if you're going to be that bad.

Thank you Braden Holtby.
Holtby was nothing short of amazing in that series.

This first round has just about had it all, at least as far as my own personal entertainment has been concerned. Great goaltending (from the West in particular), the OK Corral style shootout between Philly and Pittsburgh, and Ottawa pushing the heavily favored Rangers to the brink. And that's without even mentioning the joy of watching hockey succeed in "non-traditional markets."

Joy.

Edit: More Holtby trolling, this time from the AHL.

I bet on Boston in the pick 'em, but I can't say I'm upset to be wrong. Washington trolled them almost as good as we did in the regular season Just need Florida and NYR to win tommorrow and nothing short of absolute hilarity shall ensue.

Blues//Kings
Coyotes//Predators
Rangers//Capitals
Panthers//Flyers

Goddammit, Boston screwed my bracket. I had them over Washington. DAMN YOU TIM THOMAS.

...Still, I'm 4/6 in predictions. Not bad for a first-time bracket chosen purely on which team annoyed me less, eh?

Was happy to see the Caps win that. Bye Bye Boston.

I'm pulling for the Sens tonight. As for Devils/Panthers, I just don't really care who wins that series. Doubt I'll even watch. I think I've watched about 2 periods of that whole series. Just doesn't interest me. Only guy I like on either team is Parise.

The Fla/NJ series is totally odd man out in this season's playoffs. We've been spoiled by virtually every single other series and matchup, and it's hard to imagine anyone hanging on to the edge of their seats in this one even though it's heading into a Game 7.

The greatest part about the New Jersey/Florida series happened off the ice.

To catch those who weren't paying attention up:

- Rubber rats are no longer being sold at the Bank Atlantic Center. This is supposedly because visiting New Jersey fans threw rubber rats on the ice, during play, in an attempt to put Florida on the PK.

- The President of the Florida Panthers is on Twitter (@PanthersYormark) and condemned those visiting Devil fans for forcing this issue.

- Of course, in a public form like that, you're going to get responses, and he got a couple from New Jersey fans. Rather than ignore them, he responded with petty retorts like "Get off Twitter" and "You only have 70 followers. No one cares what you think".

- Yormark himself only has about 2900 followers, which while a great more than 70, still isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things.

- Once the media found out about these tweets, @LaurenAshley07 (the 70 follower girl) received a huge boost in followers, up to about 4900 at one point. Some snarky comments were made by media personal like "I guess she's allowed to have an opinion now".

- Today, these were put up by Lauren:

Quote:
Lauren Ashley ‏ @LaurenAshley07

@PanthersYormark called and offered an apology, though I was also in the wrong. I never expected this to happen & I appreciate the support.

Also, @PanthersYormark graciously invited my dad and me to Florida to watch the game with him tonight in his suite
Hilarious story all around, even with a fairy-tale ending. Oh, and before anyone somehow turns this into a shot at the Panthers fanbase, to my understanding, they hated this Yormark person before this came out.

Even better?

Peter's twin brother Brett is President and CEO of the NJ Nets, and was key in getting them moved to Brooklyn.

As far as trolling goes, this is sort of a circular firing squad.

Clarification: Brett Yormark is CEO of the Nets, Pres/CEO of Brooklyn Sports Entertainment. For the nitpickers.

Peter DeBoer said something along the lines of that it was embarassing that his team (with 7 or 8 more points) had to be on the road tonite. Stay Classy Jersey

I realize his comments are just posturing, but DeBoer knew how seedings were going to work before the season started so it's a bit disingenuous to complain about it now. Especially because he's not complaining about other controversial rules that helped NJ this year, such as they were 12-4 in shootouts this year which gave them a lot of extra points. Shootouts (and to a lesser extent 4-4 OT) is a major reason they are 8 points better than FLA.

He knew the rules going in.

EDIT: excellent point Joe. If they would have gone by just points, they would have been playing on the road and against a better opponent.

Agreed. Although kind of dumb to only bring it up before a game 7. Looks desperate.

If they went by points they wouldn't be playing a team as bad as Florida to begin with. And they'd still be on the road if they managed a game 7 against Philly. I also think its embarrassing that the Devils get to be a 100 point team despite having only 36 ROWs and 12 Shootout wins. Those are the rules though, it's only fun to complain about them when they don't benefit you.

DeBoer has a point, though. If they had been going by points, things would have been totally different. For instance, NJ would have been swept by Philly by now, instead of playing a game 7 on the road.
