I only go into it after watching the 2010 Olympics, during my senior year of high school. I was never a sports guy, when one day my friend had all the guys over to watch them, and after the Olympics were over I started to research more about it, went and bought NHL 09, and started watching games. And now, just over 2 years later, I'm not only a HUGE hockey guy, I've branched out a little into other sports.
My first game was actually this past December, we went and saw the Wild take on the Avalanche. The Wild lost, but it was still awesome to go see a game live.
Some of my first memories is of watching hockey with my dad. Even when i totally did not understand what it was i can still remember games rolling on the TV. So, since about the early/mid nintees.
First game was in like 1996, I believe. I was really young so I'm not totally sure, but I have memories from the game and remember it was against the Pens. Favorite player was Tony Amonte.
Not as much as I'd like to. Maybe a dozen times a year if that. I have four kids so that takes up a lot of time.
There was a time from when I was 6-17, though, where if I wasn't at school and it was winter time, I was at the rink either playing, reffing, or just shooting a puck around. My dad was the caretaker of the rink and while he and his buddies would drink in the Zamboni room all night, I would shoot around until three in the morning.
I tell my own kids that there would be days where I would wake up at 6:00 and go to the rink with my dad, shoot around until the first game of the day at 9:00, ref the tournament for the whole day until my own game at 6:00, then play up in the next age division in another game at 8:00, then shoot around until maybe 3:00 in the morning.
Obsessed? Yes, but it wasn't because of any player on TV or any team. I just loved being on the ice.

always loved the flyers, but growing up i never had prism, so i didn't get fully entrenched in hockey til the 93 playoffs... watched islanders vs capitals and was hooked since, pierre turgeon became my favorite player from there until his career was over
I've loved the sport since the first time I watched the Mighty Ducks movies when I was like four. I lived in Scotland at that point though so there wasn't any hockey to watch on TV. I moved to the US when I was six and watched my first NHL game when I was nine. I watched games every once and a while with my dad for a few years until I got hooked at age 13. From then on (I'm 20 now) I've tried to watch as many games as humanly possible and I've converted a lot of my friends from high school into big Sharks fans.
At age four, my dad would take my brother and I to see the Wisconsin Badgers hockey team. My favorite player was Brian Rafalski, so I think I had a nose for talent at the time
I grew up around hockey and always wore a leaf t shirt :embarrassed: but I didn't get into until I was about 5. Remember playing road hockey with a friend and just loving it. As a kid you are always pretending to be your favorite player. And I was playing goalie so I asked who is a goalie, someone replied Dominik Hasek. From that day on he was my favorite player. Didn't become a huge fan until I moved in the summer of 99 (7 years old) also probably had something to do with buffalo in the finals. Once decided to watch NASCAR over gretzkys final game.

Watched some heartbreaking losses against Montreal when I was young, like mid to late first decade of my life. Then my father was stationed in Colorado, then New Mexico for over a decade. Never gave up allegiance but did not pay much attention to the Bruins until I returned to the area in 1999.
My 1st game I think was in 1990. About a year before the Sharks came to town there was an exhibition game between the Kings and the Wings so it was Gretzky vs Yzerman--Not bad eh? Anyway, I was instantly hooked if you will. When it became official that the Sharks were coming to town, it was a done teal.
1995 I was 4 years old and met Steve Yzerman in Birmingham (By met I mean my dad said hi and good luck at the start of the playoffs, while he was carrying me). I have a picture of him holding me that day and I have vague memories of the Red Wings being on during '95 playoffs and my dad being furious when they got swept. I watched most of the games in '97 and was at the parade. That's when I really got into it.
I remember my Opa watching hockey every weekend as a child, but the first game I watched of my own accord from start to finish was the Winnipeg/Boston game on December 6th, 2011. It was love at first sight, though I'm sure the Jets winning helped. I'm as newbie as you can get.
I learned how to skate when I was 3 or 4 (96/97) so I imagine I started watching hockey around then. I vaguely remember some moments of Detroit winning their back to back cups.
Started before I could remember. Used to do hockey pools with my family and family friends, and I remember being 5 searching through papers to find stats, and watching games on Saturday.
Being playing hockey since I was 5 as well.
Now I am pretty much the only one who watches hockey in my family minus my boyfriend.
I actually moved into a neighborhood with a group of kids that played street hockey all day every day when I was maybe twelve. My dad was a foodball loving guy who grew up halfway between Pittsburgh and Erie, I never heard of hockey before that. Loved playing before I really got into watching. Got into playing goalie pretty quick and thats when I really started watching as many games as I could, in 93 probably.
Even though I've always been a Pens fan, I loved watching Richter, Fuhr and Cujo, I even rooted for the rangers in 94 after the pens were bounced due to them having Richter, Leech and Kovy but my all time favorite player to this day is probably Ron Francis.
Seriously how good was the 95 Pens with Mario, Jagr and Francis all scoring over 100pts and Nedved suck at 99 because he was suspended for the final two games of the season.
