Big Time Rumor: Burke will deal 5th pick for Nash

Just heard on Hockey Central. Doug Mac's sources say that Burke is considering a big time push for Nash and will use the 5th pick to land him. "The leafs didn't have the resources or didn't want to part with their key pieces at the deadline, but now they have the 5th overall pick to use".

I will post the link later, but HC is still being broadcasted at this point.

april 9th edition.

The whole thing is a joke.

The Leafs don't have the number five pick yet. They could still fall to number six.

It makes sense to me. They are young enough, but their top 6 needs a physical presence desperately.

As for the deal I haven't thought long and hard about who else might be involved.

Don't think so. It'd make sense for Columbus but it'd cost too much for Toronto, IMO.

Or...we trade up get that Yakupov which will be cheaper to get than Nash...and get a high draft pick next year...and role with a new rebuild.

If we are desperate for a 7.8 million dollar player, I rather have Parise.

How does it make sense for the Leafs?

They just finished 25th.

They desperately need a top tier centre and a top tier goalie.

Nash is neither.

I can see it happen if it involves getting Columbus' 1st in the deal (it's been reported they're not keeping it).

I think the center is acquired either at the deadline or 2013 when they finally have the cap space.

Calm down people. They need him.

There's no guarantee on Parise becoming a UFA or Toronto. How would you rather him?

mclean has a noticable man crush on nash LOL

it would depend who the leafs could draft
if galchenyuk is the best they can get , than maybe...

but if we in fact could have gotten 4 1st rd picks at the entry draft, then that creates lots of possibilities

don't believe everything you hear just because it's on TV/radio.

People in Toronto complain non-stop about Kessel.

Just wait until Nash arrives and has one of his patented 68 point seasons...

Am I the only person that has noticed this guy has never had 80 points in a season?

This. Over and over.

I'm good with trading any of our overrated young pieces for Nash. But you don't trade potential high-end talent (and no HF - Kadri, Schenn, Ashton, Frattin are not potential high end talent).

IF Grigorenko or Galchenyuk are available, I'd pass. If Murray or Dumba are the players available.. I'm still not sure. Wouldn't we have to add more than the pick as well?

Not as much as a #1 Goalie or #1 Centre.

Considering Maclean was Columbus GM till 2007, if he'd have contacts with only one team in the league, It' be the Jackets.

This.

I wouldn't call it "Big Time" just because MacLean said it. Sports radio speculate deals all the times.

Nash Kadri Kessel

aka the "wet dream" line guaranteed to produce 80+ points per player

then Mac Grabo Lupul, Guaranteed 40+ points per player

Then Kulemin Bozak Armstrong, Shutdown line?

Rosehill Steckel Brown, Goon line?

Sounds like a cool story however i don't know if it'll be worth it

Nash trade would be a terrible move for this franchise.

-We are already close to the cap, with a lot of salary tied up till 2013, Nash's 7.8 million pretty much restricts us from making any other moves and going into next season witht he current roster + Nash... which isn't much of an improvement.

-Nash isn't a C, he would be an upgrade over Lupul at the #1LW spot, but not by that much of a difference in salary.

-The #5 pick can be as good as Nash, and will be making cheap ELC and RFA money for years.

-When Kessel and Lupul are due for contracts, they're going to compare themselves to Nash, and want that kind of money, leaving us likely to have lots of headaches and lose them both when we can't afford to give them that kind of a contract.

So pleaseeeeeeee let the Nash rumours go away, unless its for at least 2 of LACK, and no Kadri, Gardiner, or the #5 pick.
