Who Wins? East or West?

I have been watching a lot of playoff hockey games. This year, the Stanley Cup will be won by a team from the West. They are playing much much better hockey than what I have seen from the Eastern teams.

What say you?

There are a lot more good teams in the West than in the East and three of the East's best clubs are facing elimination as it is.

With teams like Washington, Florida and Ottawa possibly surprising their opponents, I think West takes it this year. St. Louis and Nashville seem to have their plan together and are looking like Cup candidates. LA may just surprise as well.

The heavy defense first/trap style in the west will probably crawl their way to the cup. Gonna be a snorefest in the west.

How can you make that judgement without knowing the two teams in the finals?

Realistically St Louis, Nashville or even LA would probably destroy any of Ottawa, Florida, WAshington or even Philadelphia.

Consider me skeptical. It seems every year that people say "the east will get destroyed by whomever comes out of the West." Never seems to happen.

Realistically it is a coin-flip, and it has been that way for years. Secondly, what exactly is so special about St. Louis or Nashville?

Good coaches, good systems, good goalies, and a bunch of guys - not many all-stars there- willing to play the system and pay the price.

That doesn't make them 'special' in my eyes; there are a number of teams in the league that have these qualities.

Do the exercice. Not that many. Just look at their goalies stats and you will understand.

LA
Vancouver
Boston
Ottawa
NYR
NJ

So including St. Louis and Nashville, that comprises 50% of the playoff teams. I don't see how a ratio of 1:1 could ever qualify as special.

If Pittsburgh somehow comes back and wins game 6, East. If not, West.

Florida, Washington, Ottawa and Philadelphia were suppose to lose their series but their leading so far. (Philadelphia advancing to 2nd round)

I think the likeliest winner will be Nashville or St. Louis. I would settle for Washington because it would mean that the Bruins are eliminated in the first round. If Nashville wins I would be glad to see Andrei Kostitsyn carrying the Cup.

I think the Flyers are a real contender if Bryzgalov can play just average. Their offensive depth is just crazy. Holmgren would really look like a genius with his summer moves.

I predict a Philly-Nashville final. But Philly-LA would be the most exciting!

The St-Louis vs SJ and NSH vs Detroit series have arguably been the two best series.
Chicago and Phoenix has been pretty darn interesting too.

Florida vs NJ is the only boring series I've seen really. Vancouver vs LA, or at least the first two games, were entertaining as well. Haven't seen the last two.

I'll take those match ups every day over a ridiculous 8-4 or 10-3 game that looks like a bunch of garage teams going at it.

He'd look like one but they were still mistakes. Philly would still have been a better club with Carter, Richards, and a decent-but-unheralded goalie than what they have now. Possibly would've been the best club in the East, instead of "the best club left".

That said, Philly still has to reach the finals, which is no sure thing given that they gave over 4 goals a game to Pittsburgh, and even if they do, St-Louis, LA, Vancouver, Chicago, and possibly even Phoenix are all better clubs. Doesn't mean they'll lose to those but they still have to win three more series -- the odds are still against them.

Bos will probably come on top in the east and lose to a more sound defensive squad (And possibly better goaltending, considering TT is not looking as sharp anymore) in St Louis/Nsh/La

Probably? Boston is in a first-round dogfight that's going to a 7th game. After that, there remain East teams with good goaltending that could beat them.
