10 great reasons to draft nail Yakupov.

1 - He has a deadly one timer. Watching him play with RNH will be amazing.

2 - He is a great playmaker. He isn't just a sniper... he's had 90 assists in 107 OHL regular season games to go along with his 80 goals. everyone talks about his goal scoring abilities but his playmaking abilities are elite as well which will also make players around him better.

3 - His name is cool. So many puns and wordplay opportunities for the Oilers announcers.

4 - He is not small. He is a stocky and powerful individual. He's compact and very tough to knock off the puck. 5'11" and 190 isn't small to begin with but considering he'll likely put on even more muscle and be 200+ in a year or two... his size is actually a plus not a minus.

5 - He's fast as hell. Explosive rushes and acceleration allow him to drive hard to the net and burst into open spaces.

6 - He's said he's dreamed of playing in the NHL since he was a kid. No fear of him bolting for Russia when he's already playing in North America and adapting well to North American culture.

7 - He plays a very "NHL-type" game. Fast, explosive, strong, aggressive. He is made for the NHL and will have little difficulty adapting to the next level of play.

8 - He sounds like he's excited about the opportunity to play in Edmonton. He's made comments about playing for a team that Gretzky and the other legendary Oilers played for in the 80's. He seems to be saying all the right things about wanting to play in Edmonton.

9 - He adds much needed elite depth to the oilers forward lines, giving them more options and combinations around Hall/Eberle/RNH/Yakupov going forward. 4 elite talents up front gives the offense an extra dimension and turns the team from a 1 line team to a truly deep squad that has multiple lines that can score... much harder for opposing teams to focus on and shut down.

10 - He's an extremely exciting and fun player to watch. He's the type of player that pulls fans to the rink and excites them every time he steps on the ice. His goal celebrations and electric style of play bring fans out of their seats and the energy and buzz he brings to the ice would be a great blast of energy for some of those quiet Rexall mid-season nights.

I could probably name another 50 reasons but I'll stop there for now as they'd likely be somehow related to those above. I'm just really, really looking forward to seeing him skate for the Oilers and am really excited to see what he can do with this team.

Well done. I also do not think he is small. He has a very powerful lower body with lots of acceleration gained in a very short time. He is the same size as Sidney Crosby when he was drafted. Crosby current height and weight is 5'11", 200 lbs.

What about Klefbom, Marancin or Gernat?
Gernat, Marincin, Klefbom and Musil are going to play in the NHL. According to scouting reports, they are very mobile, skilled, great skater, have size and have lots of potential. The closest guy making it next year may be Klefbom since he does play against over ager men in the SEL.

Next year, I am sure we will get our back end fixed-from current improvements in our dmen of Petry, Smid, Whitney, Schultz. From all the talk of hockey experts, the Oilers will most likely sign (via UFA or trade) another ready NHL dman playing in the 2-3 spot prior to the start of next season.

You can never have too much skill. If one Hall goes down from an injury next season, Yakupov will cover well. If MPS develops into the player the Oils think he can next year all the better. Eberle and RNH will be there. Hemsky has shown more improvement and consistency in coming around to his usual form (in the last quarter the season). Perhaps Hall can play center next season.

Let them get out of Jr. before coming up with these definitive conclusions.

Fans should be excited.

Management and ownership should die of shame, if they had any.

This is why drafting Yakupov is really good.Taylor Hall getting more injuries won't be stressful since we will have Yakupov.

interesting article posted in prospects forum.
Ummmm, yeahhhh, you notice how this garbage comes out AFTER we win the lotto? It's just (more) propaganda to try to get Oilers to trade down, just like when Duthie asked Tambo about the pick right after the lotto. It was so blatant that the Toronto media doesnt want us to pick Nail.

I call Bovine Scatology on this one, there's no way he rockets up the standings from playing a few games....you just watch all the s*** thats going to get flung about Nail from here until the draft (especially if we havent traded him before, and it will get worse and worse the closer it gets too, mark my words). It's happened every year (not just when we're picking 1st either, look at the Tavares and Stamkos drafts, they went through the same BS too, ask those teams if they regret taking a those players 1st overall. I think i know what they would say (as soon as they stop laughing hysterically).

Nail is the ONLY choice with this pick. PERIOD!!! No trading down, no picking up "decent" players or picks or prospects, not for this pick. He wants to play here, and would not only add secondary scoring, but would be an insurance policy for injuries to the other kids. Shoots like Stamkos, skates like Hall, hits, gets the crowd energized (something Rexall desperately needs, its a mausoleum in there far too often for my liking).

No. Yakupov is simply better than either Schenn or Couturier. The late first is not enough compensation.

Imagine Yakupov scoring his 50th goal in a season for Columbus three years from now against edmonton?
Imagine Murray only becoming a top pairing defenceman three years from now?

Absolutely wonderful, no matter how good murray becomes, he will become a goat on this team when Yakupov puts up 40-50 goal seasons punishing defencemen physically behind the net in the process

It's why we need to surround these guys with energy players. I actually really like Yakupov as a guy who can dish it out.

From what scouts and hockey experts are saying about their stats and skill-sets, (some were described as "gems" or "steals" in the late rounds), I do not have any hesitation stating they will play in the NHL either with the Oilers or some other team.

Meh, I wouldn't say theyre guaranteed to make an impact though. That's what this team needs now some top 4 guys who can make a solid contribution.

I doubt murrey, dumba, or Rielly will make any significant impact in their first few seasons..similar to Fowler I guess..decent points, terrible plus minus..theres a steep learning curve for defencemen..draft yakupov, add d through free agency

I just hope playing against men won't be a shock to his style like it was with a guy like Brule.

I want Yakupov, just trying to keep things in perspective. And I think a lot of people are going to wonder where Rielly came from when he breaks into the league.

I kind of find this series depressing. Our current line up could all bring their A game and we'd be eaten alive in a series like this. Our skill wouldn't be enough. We'd fold from the physical play.

All teams pick up the physical play come playoffs. Philly is winning this series on offense alone look at Pens defense LetangOrpik Michalek Martin all regarded as very good dmen . They are getting owned by to many weapons
