Eventually we'll have a year where the Injury Plague barely touches us... It just has to happen. We can't be bit with so much misfortune like this much can we?
I don't see Helm back this series. From the looks of things he either got Modano'd or his wrist slit pretty bad (aint there an artery in the wrist?), or both.

Either way, he won't be back this season, for several reasons. One is that if he just missed the round then he won't be back, because Detroit is going down to Nashville. However, even if we somehow manage to pull this series out that injury was severe enough to sideline Helm for a long time. The playoffs could last until August and he wouldn't be returning...
Wow, we have the surgeon that worked on Helm's arm here on the board?!?!
The injury was severe enough to keep him sidelined for a long time? There have been no reports on how serious the injury was yet. The "surgery" COULD end up being 20 stitches and he'll be back tomorrow

Babcock specifically used the word "SURGERY". Surgery does not equal stitches. I don't have to be Sherlock Holmes, or Helm's surgeon, to figure this out. He's DONE for the playoffs, folks.

HELM UPDATE: Darren had successful surgery to repair lacerated tendons in his right forearm. He is out for the remainder of the playoffs.
Now I'm hoping I am only 50% correct. I nailed the Helm injury... but am hoping against hope that the Wings can somehow survive this series. I just don't see it happening, particularly now that we're down to 3 effective lines.
Sorry to hear Helm's injury was so bad. You could tell that something awful had happened right away - he dropped his glove and stick and dashed for the locker room. Then post-game when they said it was right to Vanderbilt for surgery - ouch. Y'all are right that he looked very strong especially for his first game back.
How do you know he "cannot" use it, maybe it just prevents him from moving it like he normnally does, it might be functional somewhat... how do you know all this?

Tendons are tissues that connect muscles to bone, allowing the force of the muscles to move the joints. A ligament is different, connecting a bone to a bone; its cells are different from the cells of a tendon, so there are other differences besides just what it connects to what. The muscles that move your fingers and thumb are located in your forearm, above your wrist. Long tendons extend from the muscles through the wrist and attach to the small bones of your fingers and thumb. The mucles and tendons that flex your fingers (make a fist) are called flexor muscles and flexor tendons. The ones that open your fist are called extensors. There are many important differences between flexor tendon injuries and extensor tendon injuries.
Remember what happened to Modano? Helm can't use his arm.
