Man, the Preds sure do love accidentally injuring our players. First, Josi puts Eaves out for the season. Now, Radulov puts Helm out for the playoffs. Who's next?

Yeah, but nothing looked intentional on it. As much as I hate the Radulov/Preds situation I can't be angry about a freak accident.

I never said it was intentional. Just pointing out a fluky correlation.
Having Helm back last night reminded me of the huge void our team has when he is not in the lineup. No one else on our team can skate like him, and is even close to as agressive on the forecheck. Really going to miss this guy in the playoffs. Slowly beginning to lose my optimism I had going into the playoffs.
It didnt even look serious, i've been cut on my ankle by a skate in similar way but it was just a small cut needed only a few stitches
Modano's injury didn't look as bad as it turned out to be either.
I pray Helm's cut isn't as severe as Modano's, that would he horrible.
And Dr. Mindfly, I would think a skate cut on the inside of your wrist would be more risky than an ankle cut, no? It's the tendons in the wrist that we're worried about, if those are alright stitch him up and send him out.
Edit: Mlive confirms it's a lacerated tendon.

Detroit Red Wings center Darren Helm is out for the playoffs after having surgery Wednesday night to repair lacerated tendons in his right forearm, the club announced today.
sounds interesting. i think in the prospect thread someone had the idea to use pulkkinen's hands for helm.
God I hope not. Lars Haugen is in good shape, and Lars Volden should be good to go. At the same time, Ruben Smith and his team Stavanger Oilers is leading the finals in Norway with 3-2. So, hopefully not.

grotnes/lysenstoen is what i would go with. the hockey interested people in norway would all die because of heart attacks, but that's part of the plan.

Well, that's obvious. Since Grotnes keep falling on the goalie-list. And Lysenstoen is retired(not sure if it was his back or knees. He was advised by doctors to retire).

grotnes is still norway's answer to osgood. underrated, not loved at times, but on top if you need him.
and lysenstoen was the worst goalie i've ever seen at a WC. he played a game in 2nd-tier this year i think. he's a coach otherwise.

oh and i think we're a bit off-topic.
Come on They are in the same genre. Neither of them has hands.
Lysenstoen might be a good coach down the line. Hopefully. Norway needs them.
Now, I hope Helm fully recovers over the summer and does some training with Datysuk in the off-season. Maybe he should join his hockey-school in Russia. As coach and student.
Guys curious about slash guards, they have been in the league for years and years. Hardly anyone wears them. They have been around since the 90s when short cuff gloves started showing up. I know Jofa makes one that protects all the way around the wrist. Just like visors early on, the only people that typically wear them are the ones that have had injuries in the area prior.

I was just thinking this about the short gloves - if Helm is wearing long gloves, he's probably fine today. I have never played ice hockey (hobbit feet, can't find skates that fit) but I just can't imagine going out there without having all the seams sewn up on everything below my neck. And come to think of it, I'd probably have a neck guard on too.
At the very least, they ought to wear the long gloves. If they didn't bother Gretzky, they won't bother a guy like Helm. Couldn't make him any worse at handling the puck and they might have saved him in this case.
