Unfortunately, the bar is so much higher these days for puck handling skills there's no way on earth you will convince any player to switch from short-cuffed gloves to the old school long cuffed ones. There's just too much loss of mobility as far as wrist movement goes.

There are solutions out there (some companies have built in slash guards like the new rbk gloves and others like them). But players just don't gravitate to them because they like the range of motion without the guards in. I think if players would give some of the new solutions a try they might be surprised. The rbks I speak of basically are a short-cuff glove with the guards built into the wrist so the player doesn't suffer any loss of range of motion from a short cuff glove. Easton has a similar design as well.

Ironically, two players I know that wear them and have worn them are Datsyuk (his current gloves are basically the retail rbk 11k with built in wrist guards) and Zetterberg (used to use modified easton zero shocks with wrist guards sewed in). I don't think many players would criticize Datsyuk's range of motion with guards on....

If they were to mandate them at the junior and collegiate levels, players would find out that there's no effective limitation to movement and they prevent a lot of really gruesome injuries.

I believe right now (or has been for a while) RBK-CCM has exclusive rights to AHL equipment. You'll notice most call ups have RBK gear. So they're getting used to them.

HELM UPDATE: Darren had successful surgery to repair lacerated tendons in his right forearm. He is out for the remainder of the playoffs.
That really, really sucks. Feel terrible for the guy. To get back to beating a dead horse I would have much rather used that 1st round pick on Paul Gaustad than Kyle Quincey. Sure could use another bottom 6 center who is dominant in the faceoff dot and plays big PK mins.

Any chance Helm's surgery/recovery will give him better hands with the puck?

Here's Helm's press conference on his injury. Helm's pissed at the injury. I feel the same way bud. Sucks coming back from injury and going back so fast.
