I would be for it depending on the cost if we don't sign Suter or Parise
I think the role he'd fill isn't something the Bruins need, but he's obviously worth a look.
I think you could probably keep Rolston around for less and get similar play--not sure if Jagr will produce 19G/35A again at 40/41. Rolston has shown that he fits in well in Boston and can still contribute--at least in a Bs uniform.
Personally, I'd rather see the Bruins go after Teemu Selanne. He's older, but he scored 26 goals and had 40 assists this season. More importantly, I think he's on the last year of his coontract and he's flirted with the idea of retiring--but I think the Bruins could convince him to join up with the promise of yet another cup run. Also, I don't know if they were buddies, but he did play with Thornton during the Duck's Cup Win, so he knows at least one person in Boston, and I think he'd fill the role of the "old, experienced guy" with as little risk as possible of having a hole in scoring production somewhere in the lineup.
No matter what, the Bruins should be solid up-front. I'd really like to see them pick up a rugged, experienced defender to round out their blue line.
I have called Jagr a "diver" on the history board but think he grew out of that during his stint with the Rangers-if not his time with the salary Caps..I thought he was the perfect addition last season and would want him next season, but he will stay in Philly. I will be interested to see what track Chia takes this off-season. With Horton back, I expect a good year next year, but want to see if Chia goes for a big ticket item, goes for depth or does little....All are possible.
1. Why would he come to Boston, unless Chiarelli blew him out of the water with an insane offer? Every comment I've seen from the guy he's happier playing with Giroux than a pig in poop.
By all accounts, Jagr has worked his ass off in Philly this year so I don't really think he fully deserves his lazy/floater reputation. With that said, I don't think he's a fit here.
I wouldn't rule anything out. Pouliott and Rolston are fitting in well and will likely be resigned for cheap. Hopefully Kelly will be resigned as well. The big question mark is Horton. If Horton comes back then we don't need to look at adding anybody. If he struggles with concussion symtoms next season it is definately something that may need to be addressed. Let us wait and see how our boys perform this year in the playoffs and go from there. I think Peverley will be fine in our top 6 but again time will tell.
If we bow out early I would love to add a few players before Jagr is looked at such as Jorome Iginla but the price will be high. If Iginla would sign an extension it might be worth giving up a top pick and prospect but not for one year. I would bet that Iginla will be heading to the Penguins if they exit the playoffs early so I agree with some of you on hear that perhaps Selanne or Ray Whitney could be good options. Both still highly effective players that I can see having even 2 years left in the tank.
In other words. No to Jagr
Really not a Bruins type player, so to speak, but he is certainly skilled, he's a tough matchup with his size, and he would help tremendously on the power play. So I would consider it for the right price, but I don't think it would actually happen, and I'm okay with that.

translation, jagr cant use his dominating frame to lean into a stork like gill. jagr is the master of the lean and his famous arm bar as a blocking technique on the defender.

Jerome doesn't seem like the PIT type to me, but maybe I'm wrong.
I think if the Bruins bow out in round 2-3 this year, it actually works in their favor to pick up someone like Iginla, Whitney, or Selanne next year (put Savvy on the LTIR, let go Rolston, Corvo, and Benny, and maybe you could sign all three--haha! I'm dreaming, but what a 3rd line that would be!).
On the other hand, even a SCF appearance may make older guys looking for one last run shy away--as going to the finals in 3 consecutive seasons is pretty much unheard of, no matter how good the team is.
Really--if any of those three guys are really looking to land somewhere likely to win the cup--whoever wins this year is probably off their list of destinations if they want to maximize their chances.
I should probably point out, I'm not saying that I'm not rooting for the B's to win back-to-back so they can pick up a couple of older veterans over the summer. That would be stupid.
I'm just saying that they'll have an easier time attracting those type of players if they perform well, but lose before appearing in the finals.
Never liked Jagr. Always seemed like a floater to me.
If Hall Gill can shut you down and then you don't even try, why would we want a guy like that?
Not sure how this is a cut in Jagr. Gretzky always said Steve Kasper was the hardest player he ever faced. Kasper just had his number like Gill has Jagr's.
