Sacco was never good. At all. He got lucky with a couple of combinations that worked. He is and always will be a bum
This is another reason why I hate Craig Anderson.
If it wasn't for his hot start a couple years ago where he saved the Avs' ass every single game, they wouldn't have made the playoffs that season. No chance they would have given this clown an extension if he missed the playoffs in three straight years.
Who would've guessed that Sacco's new contract would reunite so many old posters. Seriously tho just because it's two years doesn't mean squat. Carlyle got fired just a couple months into his new contract.
Can honestly say I'm surprised. A rare bad move from Shermy.
Sacco was able to do anything. Cheapest/youngest team should have made the playoffs if their best players were playing well. The avs aren't a bunch of scrubs and Sacco's genius took them this far.
I could name 100 better options than Sacco and that's just the ones that post on HF.
A 2 year deal doesn't seem to me that he's on a short leash at all.
That is absolutely fair. Sacco and his "situation" is a confusing one, to say the least. Maybe Sacco is the best option. Maybe he is not. Maybe the Avalanche had all the tools to make it to the playoffs with a different coach. Maybe the guys legitimately did not have enough chemistry and needed to get a full season playing together (2011-12) under their belts before making the jump.
So many things to take into account here with not only an extremely young team, but a very young coach. All I can honestly do to fully express my opinion of Sacco/this team is an animated *shrug*.

If we did fire him, who would we have hired? Ron Wilson or Quinn?
JM would have been my preferred choice but the season just ended 4 days ago, who knows who might have been available. Would McLellan last another year, when sharks get eliminated? Boucher, Vigneault, Sutter or Deboer all could be available. Hell Ruff and Trotz might although not likely still a chance that they might be available in the coming months. The avs didn't even waita week after the season ended.
Wow what a great day. Had a bad hangover and didnt get to study for my exam at all. Then my favorite soccer club loses the most important match of the season and therefore will not be champion this year and then I read about an extension for Joe Freaking Sacco.
Good night everybody.
Stop blaming Sacco for Avs lack of success. Yeah maybe he's not the best coach out there, but why not look at the big picture.
How is the team suppose to have success when you got the youngest team without a true captain and a leader to lead the way, and bottom pair d-men playing top pair minutes game in game out?
Avs wouldn't make the playoffs with Bowman behind the bench when they lack right players at the right positions.
it's funny that some people on here think that the Avs would of made the playoffs with a better coach because they wouldn't have.

I had quite a similar day:
First my favorite ice-hockey team loses for the 3rd time in Overtime in a series that they now lost 4-1 and missed the Finals yet again, then my Favorite Soccer club lost a normal, easy-win game to make the championship a whole lot more difficult (although they are still leading the league) and then this. Man oh man.
But in Sacco's defense, it will be very interesting to see how the next season gets underway, and if he now will be given a team that is much closer to the cap than before, i.e. is now demanded good results and no more be able to use the possible "youngest+cheapest team" excuse.
I'm not thrilled about this at all, but it could have been worse.
I wouldn't have done this (from this perspective that is), but I cautiously trust Sherman in this.
Coaching youngest NHL team all the while hugging the cap floor. How about we see how he does with a team that's... better? I'm all for coaching stability with a young core. We're not getting Roy, so there's nothing out there better than Sacco.
What can I say. I don't think he's the best coach in the league, but he grew by leaps and bounds this year. Not surprised to see this happen in the least.
Our special teams was better and I think he managed the lines and the goaltending much better. He also nearly got us into the playoffs with the youngest team in the league.
Looking forward to seeing him grow more along with our young team.
Sherman always proved us wrong, so lets hope he does again. They know more then we do.
The difference is Shermy traded for players most on here don't know much about. Sacco on the hand we've seen first hand for the past 3 years his dumbass at work.
