Watching the Canucks and saw Edler just lay an egg at the blueline to cause a goal...
If that happened to Schenn, there would be nine articles online about him already...
Schenn really takes too much abuse for his mistakes...
The comment carlyle made about Beauchemin being paralyzed when he returned from Toronto concerns me... Schenn is no different i am sure... Whatever system the dmen were trying to play has not worked... That Carlyle has a different plan is reason enough for optimism.

Agreed, but Edler is arguably one of the better D-men in the Western Conference. Schenn still has alot to prove before that happens.
In Schenn's rookie year everyone was high on him. He played tough and logged a fair number of minutes. He still made mistakes, but those were always shrugged off as "he is young" or "he is a rookie"
Well now Gardiner won't be a rookie and I'm afraid that he will now be picked alive for every error he makes.

If Gardiner does not overcome a sophomore slump/jinx, and ends up scoring less then 80pts on D...watch. Spot the vultures, tie the nooses...he better runs.
As for the topic, Leaf players take a lot of abuse for common incidents which many players commit around the league - but obviously get much less attention.

Exactly what i was thinking... Glad others out there see it too...
I'm a big fan of Schenn and think he can become a top notch Shut-down man playing alongisde Gardiner. That being said, there is a reason you call a brutal give-away, "pulling a Schenn" though. He's had quite a few burtal give-aways that have led to goals and that's unacceptable.

you cannot compare the two defencemen. if edler was on our team, he wouldn't get the same abuse as schenn does. edler is an established defencemen. schenn isn't. schenn is still finding himself and was a very high pick. of course it's not schenn's fault, but you can clearly see why you the comparison doesn't work. to take an extreme example, if lidstrom was traded here this year, and somehow costed us a brutal goal in the playoffs, i highly doubt leafs nation would be all over lidstrom.

The difference is Gardiner is the exact opposite of Schenn. He has speed, can score goals and is good on the PP.

As much as I still believe in Schenn, this is the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread lol.

In honour of our last playoff appearance, all brutal giveaways should still be referred to as "Pulling a McCabe."

A 4th year defensive d-man taking flack for defensive mistakes?
Since Schenn's name has been brought up... If I were the Leafs' brass, I'd tell Luke Schenn to spend his entire summer playing shinny. There is nothing wrong with him that a little bit of confidence and enhanced competence with the puck won't correct. The poor kid is so biddable that he does whatever is asked of him by his coaches even when he does it like a poorly programmed robot. I think we see other defenders who aren't as coachable turn out better because they ignore some of the coaching noise (see Ian White).
phaneuf screws up just as much and people dont harp on him for it
are u kidding me?? phanuef and schenn are probably the 2 biggest victims of leaf nation. phaneuf takes a lot of heat for his porous defence, and rightfully so. they both have next to zero hockey iq.
