Coming from a Canucks fan, i gotta congratulate your team, really good win for you guys.
On the other hand i could not be more embarrassed by the antics of some of the Canucks. Kesler, Burrows and Henrik were all falling down, diving and whining to the refs all night...it was absolutely embarrassing.
Just wanna let some of you guys know, that a lot of Vancouver fans were disgraced by the diving displayed by the Canucks tonight, we all hate it and want it to stop as much as anyone.
Hopefully less special teams next game, it ruins the flow. But a well deserved win for the Kings.
Kopi was on ice more than one minute till right before face-off that lead to empty net goal. He just changed with Carter, who won that crucial face-off 30 sec before end.
I'm a Vancouver fan living on the east coast. First I'd like to say congrats on winning last night. I was hoping we'd get the sharks over you, you guys were much more aggressive than I would have thought.
We had a bad night in the box and will definitely have to take less penalties. With that being said I'm not worried about the series, unless we go back to LA down 0-2.
And finally, as a Canadian, I have to say that the story about all of Canada being against the Canucks is ridiculous. Everyone I know, and everything I've read up here has been in support of both Vancouver and Ottawa. I first heard about it last year in an article in a Boston paper during the finals. It's not true, and other than some individual fans opinions there's no proof of it.
I think I read somewhere that Kopitar iced the puck prior to the Canucks second goal~not true. Scuderi did. Kopitar DID fail to get it out at one point, but it was kind of a weird play...he chipped it forward off the boards and it bounced around...when it settled down, Kopi reached for it and tried to poke it out. He should have made a stronger play there. He did not ice it though. Scuderi fired it in his general direction but it was in the air and not really catchable.
Also that Kopitar got 'benched' in favor of the better center. Not true. Kopitar led Kings forwards in ice time and, as mentioned, got shifts late. The lines got shuffled badly late in the game, may have seemed like he wasn't out there as much but he was.
Jarret Stoll providing a good screen on the goal is kind of bittersweet because now I can't call his game totally worthless but man he was bad. Lewis wasn't even that bad, even though he got ragdolled repeatedly. Stoll was just brutal.
Voynov looked nervous and Martinez was awful with the puck in his own zone but no complaints about the rest of the defense (minus Scuderi's inability to handle the puck). Solid game. Not their best, but solid. Very physical, very tough (led by Greene, obviously), and just...solid. Every forward minus Stoll elevated his game. Carter was solid in his first game in a week or two, although a step slow (didn't have that first step he usually has but I think he'll get comfortable as the series goes on). Brown was a physical force, Penner was oustanding, the 4th line (minus maybe some shaky puckplay from Nolan) was as good as could be expected. King was a little iffy, maybe. Not surprising that the 'iffy' guys, minus Stoll, are the inexperienced NHLers like Martinez, Nolan, King, and Voynov. I think they'll be better in game 2.
The thing that gives me hope is that...realistically, it's hard to see Luongo being better than he was last night. That might have been his best effort, and the pressure can only mount on him. He has never responded well to it. Going to Staples with a guaranteed split now, that's huge. He's been awful on the road in the playoffs. Last year he had a 3.18 GAA and .878 sv% on the road last year in the playoffs. He was not very good against us in Staples two years ago either. We'll see. That was a huge statement, a huge win last night. Haven't been happier after a game since game 3 in 2010, and this may be even better than that.
– This is the Kings’ 28th best-of-seven playoff series in franchise history. They now have a 9-19 record in Game 1. All-time, when the Kings have won Game 1, they have won three out of eight series.
How comforting =/

If you listen to the call-in shows on the radio I think you'd find your proof.

"individual fans opinions".
There are 30 million people in Canada, calling in to a radio show isn't exactly like taking a census. Plus I'm almost positive those ones that do call in are majority Oilers/Flames fans, who hate the Canucks no matter what.
If Pittsburgh makes the finals not every Flyers fan is going to be rooting for them, but that doesn't mean the entire state of Pennsylvania is against them.
The Kings won 33 of 74 faceoffs (45 percent). Anze Kopitar won 11 of 22 draws (50 percent). Mike Richards won 9 of 21 draws (43 percent). Jarret Stoll won 7 of 18 draws (39 percent).
Was such as weak celebration though. It's the playoffs and he just scored the game winner. Even his celebrations apear to lack effort and emotion
Really? He was clearly excited. I hope you're being sarcastic. Penner played a great game last night. His hustle back to the net saved a goal by Tanev. He laid a crushing hit on one of the Canucks' dmen, and he did a great job protecting the puck down low.
I think the best comparison I heard in regards to fans from Canada all loving their own teams regardless was something along the lines of:
Okay so if it comes down to a...let's say...Devils - Flames final....
is all of a sudden everyone from the U.S. rooting for the Devils because they are from the United States? No. Who gives a ****, if it's not your team, it's not your team. And as west coast watcher, we have no connection at all normally, the Devils are alllllll the way on the East coast. It's not like they matter to us.
The whole Canada vs. U.S. thing has ALWAYS amused me. Like when people chant USA at staples when we play a canadian team.
It's like...uuuhhhh you realize we have canadian players on our team right? Or you realize the other team has American players right? And these teams do not represent a country...it's not the Olympics....
That is probably more of a reflection of how few playoff series they have won. Anyone know what their record is like when they lose the first game? It probably isn't much better. Given that the Kings have lost the series the last two times they lost the first game, I'll take it. Past performance doesn't guarantee future results anyway.
The bottom line, if the Kings play to the level we know they can play at, they can win this series and that would be an incredible confidence boost for these guys that they could certainly use.
Playoff Discussion Thread V1. (Now with 30% less Oilers) - Lets Go Kings!
Originally we had the "watching the canucks fail" thread--but the same group of people offended by the kings tweet last night were offended with that thread and the thread got merged with another
some people are either too thin skinned or have no sense of humour#
BTW
LOVED THE TWEET and was offended the kings said sorry

The Kings need to keep it going...I am surprised nobody was complaining about the PP in this thread. If Mitchell doesn't score on the PP, there would be an angry mob for Kompon.
Hopefully the Kings go over a lot of video that shows a lack of activity on the PP and need more shots and net presence.
Faceoffs need to be better, but that's always been a problem vs Vancouver.
Some compliments from Vigneault. I don't remember him ever giving compliments to certain players.
Quote:
Canucks coach Vigneault very complimentary to Kings' Richards. "we need to have an answer for Kopitar line...we need to have an answer for Penner, who was a powerful force down in our own end and we need to have an answer for Richards, who played one of the best games I've seen him play since he's been in LA. Not just offensively but physically also."
Sounds like AV knows whats up, wonder if his players will listen to him. Either way, I believe the Canucks are going to come out flying in Game 2. That's about as close as you can get to a must win game for Vancouver, without calling it a must win game.
Going to LA down 0-2 would really put them in a hole.
