It was a deliberate intent to injure the head. I don't care that Zetterberg is okay, it's the fact Weber went out of his way with 2 seconds left to crack the head of one of our best players.
It's really ridiculous you're allowed to do that with no consequence. They gave him a 2 minute penalty when the game was over, great.
Hopefully Zetterberg is half as pissed as some of you guys.
Yeah, wasn't that bad. He didn't concuss him or break his jaw. THEN it gets bad
I'm about Weber's size, let me just slam your head into a pane of rink glass as hard as I can. See how bad you think it is afterward. I have a feeling your tough guy tune would change pretty quick.
Just a typical hockey play, right? 2 seconds left, slam a guy's head. That's fine. Hockey. Grunt. Canadian. Tough. Don Cherry. Alpha male. Wasn't that bad.

In conclusion, testosterone.
Wonder how this would have been viewed if Beuk had been able to get up and continue his career. Maybe Johnson would have barely touched him then.
In my roller hockey league a guy did to me what Weber did to Zetterberg, he bought me a beer after the game and I helped put a new roof on his summer home.
It was a really cheap hit by Weber, but i dont think he should have been suspended. Wings just gotta get vengeance in game two on the scoreboard and play more physical. Make Weber think twice about doing it again. Sometimes, teams have to be the police and not look for the league to help them out.
I dont want this team to turn into the Canucks that just look for help from the refs or Shanny.

Let me get this straight, Heaton- he smokes your head into the glass, buys you an apology beer after the game, and then you put a roof on his summer home?? Did your roller hockey league have you undergo mandatory concussion testing in the quiet room? 'Cause I'm thinking you definitely had a concussion to some degree... oh right, this is hockey- you sustained an upper-body injury.
Can't wait to see the youtube clips of Z helping Weber install a new kitchen sink this offseason!
Sure, teams have lost in the PO's playing a physical style, but I've also seen teams that rely almost solely on puck possession lose b/c they are no longer more skilled than every other team due to the salary cap and overall parity. A couple of recent Wings teams come to mind. Having some physicality up front would definitely help. Not saying that we're entitled to a SCF appearance or win every season, just pointing out that it's not like the Wings have the only playing style/philosophy that wins Cups in the post-lockout NHL.

In my ball hockey league, a guy did that to my head on the floor.
He got a but-end in the side of the face.
Years later, we laugh about it. But not after the game.

Me either. But what Weber did was not a hockey play. It's not like he killed him with a check or even anything remotely related to the game. It was a last second, literally, intent to hurt a star player.
If there are no consequences for plays like that, then what's stopping anybody from throwing a last second punch at the end of every game? Clearly there's no incentive to stop, unless you can't afford to lose .003% of your salary.
