It was a blown call, but hardly that big of one. Pens defensive lapse still led to it, and Briere arguably still gets to the puck if he is on side, in the grand scheme of things this is such a stupid call to come out and piss and moan about. Not doing the Pens any favors either by just fanning the fan speculation of NHL insiders pulling for them.
Regardless blown off-side calls happen in just about every game that has the concept of off-side. As a fan I'm typically more pissed at the lack of consistency, this is what the NHL should be angry about, not some blown off side. Blown off side is a mistake on the officials viewing, be it his sight of line or what he thought he saw, it's bound to happen every once and a while. If I'm the NHL I'd have more problems with the refs who seem to not know when to make a call or what the proper call is, I guarantee every linesmen knows what off side is, so why come out and apologize.
**** happens, it wasn't the reason why they lost though.
**** happens too often in the NHL and too little is done about it (but this is a refreshing change of pace).
Obviously the NFL is in a league if its own, but they're accountability of officiating is the standard all other leagues must aspire to, especially at playoff time. No excuse for the blown offside call yesterday, players/teams work too hard for let downs like that.
I actually feel for Penguin fans, the league is doing them absolutely no favors by talking about their team.
I'd say 90% of the backlash towards the Pens have nothing to do with the players, the city or the fans but all about wanting to stick it to Bettman and his perceived favorite team.
The NHL should just shut up about all matters relating to Pittsburgh. Just shut up.

Exactly, it was no big deal, Pittsburgh didn't lose because of that offside call, if the Pens coach and (I hope) Pens fans aren't angry about the call, noone else should be either.

Couldn't disagree more, if anything it's more of an illustration that the NHL doesn't get it.
People have been throwing their hands up in frustration because the call and rules have been so inconsistent. This call though? This is just a blown call. Every linesman in the world knows what off side is, this is just one guy who didn't see it. It had nothing to do with him not understanding the rule or wanting the game played at a certain style, he just didn't see what is the most black and white call in the book. Making him look like a bafoon in public doesn't mean next time he'll see it and call it, if he had seen it, he would have called it. That's why this is such a joke of a call to come out on, it's not like the official misunderstood the rules, or did something like that, he just had a bad look at the call. I'm sure after the game he looked at it and went "Oh ****, I've got to work on my positioning." But what's the point in the NHL being "angry"? Are other linesmen going to try even harder now to not blow off side? Like they weren't already giving 100%? This is so mind numbingly dumb.
The game 4 overtime goal against Montreal last year would have been the bigger one. The Kessel one I don't actually remember him being offside, but I could be wrong.
The league continues to build an exemplary case to prove the complete lack of validity of Totorella's comment.
Yea Go*****t already what the hell are these buffoons doing? They might as well start personally handing out tin foil hats at every road game the Pens play jesus christ. It's like the thinking is "Well maybe if we're really blatant about it people will say 'Well there's no way they'd be this blatant about it so it can't be true' and we'll be off the hook". No in reality they are damn morons witha slight bias for their superstars and that's perfectly reasonable bc every league is slightly bias towards its superstars
Officials screw up a lot. I don't recall seeing Campbell coming out with an apology before. Wonder why that is? Does it have to do with either of the teams involved?
In other news, no suspension for Weber and no fine for Brian Burke's cursing in his PC earlier in the week. What a messed up league!
Where does it say "we apologize" or "we are sorry" for the non call?
That call didnt lose them the game, their play did. That said, it was a pretty egregiously bad missed call. Oh well, that's life. The Pens just need to respond to their wake up call that they got yesterday.
I thought they were throwing heavy fines out for talking about officiating. Didn't they say it hurt league integrity when the coaches bash the officials. I guess its ok when the NHL does it though, thats not going to ruin integrity at all.
