Like I said, you don't understand the corporate mentality. I have been in it for a couple of decades. Trust me on this one.
Holy ****!!! That is scary!! You've been working for a couple decades! That means your older! Wow, I was sure you were some irritating 10 year old with a computer.
Flipping burgers for a corporation doesn;t count!
Clearly you don't understand Economics and marketing 101?
What Canada as a whole feels about the Leafs is irrelevant as that comprises a large number of people who contribute nothing finanically to the company. The first poll reflects very little information that woudl be of importance.
That little blurb that MAclean's cleverly left as a tiny little paragraph reflects some of the most important information as that reflects Canada's hockey market as a whole. Now, it woudl be incredibly arrogant to believe any company could hold a 100% market share. Especially in such a large geographic location. Now with 7 Canadian teams as well as people cheering for non-canadian teams, one can be very content with almost a quarter-share of the market. That leaves 76% of the market to be divied up by 6 other Canadian teams as well as 23 other American teams which many people may have a passion for. Especially since the Oriinal six teams included a large American sample that have been in existence since before other Canadian teams and have likely secured significant brand loyalty. One must also take into account Canadian teams that have shipped over to teh States and any loyalty fans had and still have for those teams. So taking all this into account, 24% of Canadians cheering for the Leafs is quite impressive!
Now you can take those other polls which asked people to vote on a teams characteristics. But as Maclean's and the research company have already stated this is not aimed directly at Hockey fans. This means that a large number of respondents are aiming personal biases of Toronto as a city at teh Toronto hockey team. The following quite kind of shows that the Leafs are the victims of cultural biases.
Quote:
In a funny finding, Canadians view Toronto much the same way as their hockey team. Both the Leafs and Torontonians are seen as arrogant, dirty, disrespected and overrated.
One can also not dictate the importance of these results as they do not specify answers by region. If Ontarians and Torontonians did not vote these results and most of the results are from outside of Toronto's primary target market then they don;t mean much. What is important to MLSe is how Tornto and Ontario feels about Toronto and then to a lesser degree what some more of the more-populated areas think as well!
Imagine if the Leafs ever get to Vancouver's level where they are always near the top of the entire league, they will get even more hate than what Vancouver gets right now.
Well, we as fans have about 2 more years of BB, then Nonis will take over for 2-3 yrs then the Leafs will be where the Cannots are. If they follow the BB/Canucks template.
I think it comes down to the boisterous, arrogant, and loud fan base that we have.
Let's face it - we have done nothing on the ice for a decade that warrants any sort of jealousy or hate from any corners of the NHL.
That animosity for the team, comes straight as a result of our fans.
Agreed. I just wish the boisterous, arrogant, and loud fan base that we have would show themselves at the ACC instead of all the suits not making any noise.
You think again! You think they give a **** about the poll! Hahahaha! I'm sure they're terrified about this pool reflecting a threat on their bottom line!
What? Other Canadian hate Toronto and anything involved with it?? What a shock??? The rest of Canada can suck it! Toronto kicks ass! Funny how so many characteristics used to describe the Leafs were also used to describe Toronto as a city! Wonder if people just don;t like Toronto? Was tehre a skill testing question to ensure these people had any hockey-knowledge??
Easy now, no need pee on the rest of Canada. It is just a game after all.
Leafs were voted the most Boring and the most Weak. I sure hope that gets the new owners attention.
Canadians not only dislike the Leafs, they hold negative views of the team. They see them as weak (48 per cent), in decline (43 per cent), arrogant (39 per cent), boring (38 per cent) and overrated (38 per cent).
arrogant? boring? overrated?
How can a team be arrogant? Fans sure, but a team?
We played some of the most exciting hockey earlier in the year?
How is pointing out that a corporation is concerned about public opinion and market share ignorant? It is top of mind for any business.
You're going on in this thread about how much you know about corporate business, but in another thread you show you know nothing about PR. I just find that interesting.
I honestly don't see why the Leafs get hated on so much. I guess it's just the cool thing to do. It's kind of similar to the same reason why the Cowboys, Yankees, Lakers, Knicks, Manchester United get hated on as well. It's because they are the most popular teams of their respective leagues, their fan bases have a lot of uneducated or bandwagon fans and it's the hip thing to do. The only difference is those teams are actually competitive (Cowboys are debatable).
I can only guess as to why but it's probably because the Leafs are are successful financially, have the largest (and possibly most annoying) fanbase in the world and are the most popular, even though they've been mediocre to terrible for about 10 years now. When really it's just because the Leafs have a loyal fan base to a fault when they shouldn't be supporting such a lacklustre team.
It's not like they are successful on the ice or anything, so no reason to hate on 'em.
