Could work, but Zetterberg is one of the classiest players in the NHL and Detroit is the classiest organization.
Detroit has no physical players that can stand up for Zetterberg, so of course other teams will take liberties with him. Same story every year and they never learn.
I'm actually suspicious this played into the lack of suspension, if this had happened between Philly and Pittsburgh, where you know letting the guy back on the ice next game has the potential to turn it into a bloodbath, I really don't think they would leave it as just a fine, but they know that Detroit isn't the sort of team to do that generally.
I'm not saying they are perfect little angels or anything, but outside a few hotheaded players they aren't the sort to try and get even.

Honestly, I hate this line of thinking. Having an "enforcer" on the other team or whatever has never deterred anyone. Physical players or goons on the other team are going to be physical regardless. Players are still going to be rough with the star players (or anyone else on the ice for that matter) as that is the nature of the game. Pittsburgh has a bunch of players who can "protect" Crosby, right? Has it stopped anyone from "taking liberties with him"? No, it hasn't. IMO, it's such an outdated, perpetuated fallacy that having tough/physical guys is going to magically stop the other team from being physical with your best players. Honestly, i'd argue that if the Red Wings were "tougher" and more physical, that would just lead to a more physical series in general than what they have going on now...with more chance for injury to the star guys.
It's nice in theory but in reality I dont think it changes much. I know everyone is going to disagree with me but whatever.
I really wish people would stop using "Shea Weber has a clean history" argument because its a moot point. If someone with a clean history starts dealing crack and gets caught is he let off the hook?
A clean history doesn't matter, its the intent that matters. Weber knew what his intent was, which was to throw a haymaker and then curb stomp Zetterberg's head. Absolutely ridiculous.
People call Red Wing fans homers. Well, if you are a Pred fan and don't think that was suspension worthy you're an even bigger homer than we are.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Weber fined earlier this season for a hit or something? I swear he got fined earlier because people were complaining he didn't get suspended then. Ah well, looking foward to a well played hockey game tonight.

Good luck Preds and Go Wings!!
Yeah...I think this is his second $2,500. We're really lucky, here. Should have gotten a game + fine (larger fine if possible).
The intensity of Game 2 has certainly been elevated now. It's going to be insane. Looking forward to it!

YOU ARE WRONG!
It really doesn't matter anyway punishment handed down $2500. fine handed down by ex-Wing. Done and over.

This is Weber's second fine this season, so the first poster was correct. The fact that Shanahan played for the Wings (and Devils, and Whalers, and Blues, and Rangers) doesn't mean squat. Non-hockey play, thug move, should have been a game, not surprised it isn't.
The NHL needs to do a "Because it's the Cup" commercial explaining why Weber wasn't suspended for this, that would be awesome.
"Because you can slam a dude's head into the glass after the game ends. Because you don't have a history of being dirty. Because it's the Cup."

Reason: unnecessary
They used it for like 2 games max, and then went back to Bert on the 1st line with Datsyuk. I see no reason why Nyquist will be on the 1st line to start game 2.

Actually, you are wrong. Weber was fined in October for his hit on Hansen.
And once again there is a thread for this topic. This is not the appropriate place for that discussion.
Also, there is a GDT up now

Go Preds!!
I think a one game suspension would've been enough to be honest. Ah well, hopefully Detroit responds on the scoreboard tonight. They probably won't do anything like that back to any Preds player. Worst you going to see if anything is Kronwall start stepping up on people.

Big difference. People who don't deal crack don't typically hang our in crack houses. Hockey is a violent sport with a lot of emotions. Every second is right on the line between "good clean hit" and "no respect". Just look at all those "KRONWALLS".
Wing fans are just butt hurt that they don't get to get a game without Weber in the lineup.
What do DRW fans say is the impact of losing Helm (which I hate to see by the way)?
Here is what Babcock said BEFORE yesterday's game:
I didn't agree with the statement- I think bottom six is a great matchup for the Preds- but I agree somewhat with the sentiment, particularly on the forecheck speed and in Detroit where he could get the matchups he wanted.
Having said that, I think Babs was more playing mind games-- it's a loss but not of that proportion. To me, if it's a problem, it's part and parcel of a bigger problem for DRW with cumulative injuries/players playing at less than 100% that diminish their overall effectiveness.
It is a loss for sure, one they can make up for but it still hurts. Helms speed would have been very nice to have because Gaustad isnt that fast and likely would have created some scoring chances.
But Helm at center also puts Abdelkader on the wing where he is a completely different player. Hes almost useless at center except when killing penaties. Too much defensive responsibility to play his physical style of hockey and when hes doing that hes the biggest hitting forward on Detroit.
Helm is also draws a lot of penalties and creates scoring chances (though he rarely finishes).
Should the "classless thug" Shea Weber express his desire to sign with Detroit next year, I assume you will demand your organization not take his calls?

I am a wings fan really could care less about the whole thing ! We don't want Weber we are going to take Ryan Suter. We have burt who done far worse on the ice but not as a wing! he does not play like that here . so what was your point again?

Come on. Any fan of any team is going to like any player that is a good player than comes to their team and produces on the ice. Of course I would love Shea Weber on the Red Wings. I also think Crosby is a turd but of course i'd want him on my favorite team.
Apparently the rest of your fans think Kronwall will get Weber good in game 2. It will be interesting to see if a retaliation hit leads to a DET suspension, then there will not be an ark to save us from all the tears.
If -I- were a Detroit player I would be trying to piss Weber off again and not take runs at him. If you aggravate him and he does it again...he's out for a couple games. Retaliating with a late hit or a sucker-punch will just put your team at a disadvantage rather than the other way around.
More likely that Kronwall doesn't get Weber, assuming Weber plays defense. I'm not sure a defenseman has ever been Kronwalled. Detroit doesn't do the retaliation thing.

That's irrelevant. Wings will win with Weber in the lineup, which is even better because the 'butt hurt' Preds fans would just use it as an excuse anyways.

I wish people would read the threads before asking questions like this, lots of people have said they don't want him, some said they don't care.
Awesome, the smart thing by weber would have been to apologize, not joke about this. I really hope some kid does not try to emulate this fully and get his friend seriously hurt. He is really shafting himself for the next time he does anything close to borderline.
