I'm not sure if the Flames organization is interested in waiting to find their new head coach, but from at least what's been rumored online, if the Yotes do relocate to Quebec City, Quebecor probably wouldn't be interested in keeping Tippett on as their coach. If that's really the case, then the Flames jumping after him would make a lot of sense, imho.

It's a long shot but Tippett to Calgary would have me extremely excited.
Paraphrasing, but just a few days ago Brent said he'd love to return to the Flames and that he'd absolutely coach a "rebuilding" team. He said if he were to return though, things would have to be different and he'd do things differently, and some of those things may not be interpreted as "nice".
To me, this looks like Jay/ownership didn't agree with what Brent wanted to change - so they decided to split ways (Brent's contract expired, he wasn't fired).
Everyone who follows this team, knows Sutter and Iggy didn't get along. Town's not big enough for both, so one had to go....Iggy wins again. He's a coach killer, no question. Those in the know seem to think there won't be a rebuild. They'll find a coach who can work with the current roster, rather than creating something brand new.
Big question is: Does Tambo dump Renney to make room for BS?? He's got a proven track record of working with young talent (Red Deer Rebels/NJ Devils) and winning with young talent. Could be the boot in the ass the Oilers need...

That would be incredibly dumb (for QC). Is having a Francophone coach a must for them too? What if Tippett wins the Adams this year?
honestly i have a bad feeling this may be a sign that not alot more change is coming.
i figure sutter dosent want to be here....why wouldnt he? cause he feels nothing is going to change. they must have an idea what direction the teams going in before making coaching desisions. i really feel sutter just dosent agree with that direction. that direction being no drastic changes. i cant see sutter wanting another go at it with the same guys that have let him down the last few seasons, and i dont blame him.

Listening to the press conference and this is the feeling I get, too. Feaster said it wasn't about Sutter's message getting through/nor missing the playoffs, rather Sutter and him decided they didn't agree on the direction of the team. There was one point where Feaster got downright forceful and annoyed and that was when a reporter asked if the core of the team would be consulted about the next coach and Feaster slowly said "Abso-lute-ly NOT. Players play, management manages." Dreger also recently tweeted that Sutter said it was an amicable parting and they simply didn't agree on the direction of the team. To me, that sounds like Feaster wants to take one last shot with this core and push for the playoffs and Sutter's saying "it's over, re-build". Maybe it's vice versa, but somehow I doubt it. Will be interesting to keep an eye on, for sure.
One other thing to mention, Feaster seemed very interested in Bob Hartley but reiterated that Hartley has a contract in Switzerland for next season. But, they're friends from AHL days and Hartley is even Feaster's son's godfather. I could see something happening there, maybe in the form of financial compensation to the Swiss team to release Hartley from his deal.
Basically this. Sutter was ready for a rebuild; now that he's leaving the Flames are going to 'retool'. Feaster will keep iggy and kipper and try once again to make the playoffs. IMO, minimal changes will take place on the roster. The core will stay together for another year.
As for Sutter, he would be an excellent addition to a team like the Edmonton Oilers.
Brent simply did not perform to the standards that the Flames were held to. He refuses to adapt his system, and you can really see teams take advantage of it inbetween periods.
My guess is that Troy Ward will get the spot.
In Feaster's interview the other day he said he considered Troy Ward to be one of the best developmental coaches out there. If they do promote him to the head coaching position it could indicate that the rebuild is coming.
Good to see Sutter gone. As much as he loved to preach accountability he never demonstrated it during the games.
Sutter was told they are going in a full rebuild - He did not wanna be apart of it.
Sutter was told they were going to try to make the playoffs again with current line up - Sutter wants a rebuild, and could not make this bad team into a good team
Yea lets fire the Gm a year and half after we hired him while he has made the team younger and had a great draft even tho we gave the last guy almost a decade.

Made the playoffs with out him and haven't since he got here but I am sure the its just the team.

People have no clue what Feaster has done. They think the Flames missed the playoff because of him. I like Feaster. Let him have a full offseason to work with.

Sutter had publicly stated that he was comfortable with two things: either to rebuild or have a legitimate shot to win a cup. Anything in the middle for him would be wasting his time. Now, obviously the Flames are closer to rebuilding than winning a cup so it's pretty easy to see i) why sutter left ii) the immediate future of the flames
