Quote:
April 21, 1997 -- In Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in Pittsburgh, the Flyers scored two key PPGs and unleashed a record-setting 53-shot attack en route to a 5-3 win. The Legion of Doom Line of John LeClair, Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg were chosen the three stars of the game, had 15 shots on goal, seven points and the trio combined on Lindros' (1-1-2) go-ahead goal in the decisive second period in which the Flyers out-scored Pittsburgh 3-0. Pat Falloon's PPG tied the game just past the midway point of the second period. Lindros' blast made it 3-2 about three minutes later. LeClair (1-1-2) scored an important PPG with 12 seconds left in the middle period while Mario Lemieux served a slashing penalty. Renberg had three points (1-2-3) including assists on the tying and go-ahead goals. Garth Snow made 35 saves and had an assist on the Flyers' fourth goal. Vaclav Prospal (0-2-2) had assists on the Flyers' last two goals. The Flyers set team-records for shots on goal in a PO game (53), in a PO period (28) and for shots on goal by both teams in any PO period (39). The Flyers outshot Pittsburgh 53-38 including 28-11 in the record-setting first period and 40-26 through 40 minutes. Ken Wregget made 48 stops including 27 on 28 shots in the opening period. The Penguins' PP was 0-for-8 through two games but Jaromir Jagr (2-0-2) scored two PPGs in the first period which gave his team a 2-1 lead. Eddie Olczyk received a 4-minute minor for cutting Shjon Podein's head with a high-stick in the first period; however, during the infractions, the Flyers were whistled on two separate penalties which gave the Penguins an eventual PP and a 2-1 lead.

FLYERS-PENGUINS' 2011-12 SERIES:
  • 2011 -- December 8 -- The Flyers ended the night on top of the Eastern Conference after a 3-2 home win. Danny Briere, who was struggling with the flu, scored in the first period on a goal deflected off two Penguins. Later in the opening period, the Penguins failed to score during a 5-on-3 for 1:10 while two Flyers' defenders played without sticks for part of the play. Wayne Simmonds (1-1-2) and Scott Hartnell added second period goals which gave Philly a 3-0 lead. James Neal and Evgeni Malkin (1-1-2) scored for the Penguins. Andrei Meszaros had a game-high 7 hits and was a +2. Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves. The Flyers had a 29-27 shots despite Pittsburgh's 14-7 advantage in the third period. Harry Zolniercyk and Tyler Kennedy fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqLFGYOYl4o ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0P0mJD8oNA

  • 2011 -- December 29 -- Jaromir Jagr and Max Talbot, two ex-Penguins, scored in the Flyers' 4-2 win at Pittsburgh. Jagr scored the go-ahead goal and Talbot had an ENG. Kimmo Timonen tied the game with his first goal of the season and Matt Read snapped a 9-game drought to make it 3-1. Sergei Bobrovsky, who improved to 4-0 at the Consol Energy Center, made 24 saves and his only allowed goal came 44 seconds into the game. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mADsQXuRywA .

  • 2012 -- February 18 -- Matt Cooke (2-1-3) scored twice and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in the Penguins' 6-4 win at Philly. Cooke and Jordan Staal (1-1-2) scored SHGs 1:43 apart to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead. Cooke's goal came during a 2-man advantage which led to Sergei Bobrovsky (14 saves, 17 shots) replacing Ilya Bryzgalov (10 saves, 13 shots) with 3:03 left in the second period. Less than two minutes later, Eric Wellwood scored his first NHL goal to make it 3-3. Dustin Jeffrey scored the go-ahead goal in the opening minute of the third period, the first of three goals by the Penguins in the opening 9:02 which made it 6-3. Jaromir Jagr (2-0-2) scored twice in 18 seconds to give Philly a 2-1 lead which held through the first period. Nick Grossman played in his first game with the Flyers. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8q735Tuctw

  • 2012 -- March 18 -- Scott Hartnell scored the latest OT goal in team history (0.9 seconds left) in the Flyers' 3-2 home victory which snapped the Penguins' 11-game win streak. Hartnell tied the score 2-2 4:47 into the third period. Kimmo Timonen (1-1-2), who celebrated his 37th birthday, got Philly on the board 31 seconds into the third period. Ilya Bryzgalov made 38 saves. The Penguins led 2-0 through two periods and held a 27-10 shots advantage (40-27 in the game). Craig Adams (1-1-2) and Kris Letang (0-2-2) factored into both goals. Hartnell and Chris Kunitz had a confrontation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3B7Qt_bu9E). Zac Rinaldo got five stitches to the mouth from an errant Hartnell stick ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojd3uftjnR8 ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRibW2XYRNw

  • 2012 -- April 1 -- Jakub Voracek (2-1-3) scored twice in the third period and Sergei Bobrovsky made 43 saves in the Flyers' 6-4 win at Pittsburgh. The Flyers improved to 5-0-0 all-time at the Consol Energy Center. Claude Giroux (1-2-3) also had three points. Brayden Coburn was a +4. The Penguins held a 47-26 shots advantage including 30-14 through two periods when the scored was tied 2-2. Wayne Simmonds' PPG 2:35 into the third period made it 3-2 and was part of five straight goals by the Flyers after trailing 2-0 in the opening 4:58. Steve Sullivan (2-0-2) had two Pittsburgh goals. Nicklas Grossmann missed the rest of the regular season after a knee-on-knee hit by Joe Vitale in the first period. Vitale later injured Danny Briere, who also missed the balance of the regular season, on a check with 1:03 to play moments after the Flyers made it 6-3. That play created a chaotic scene which included a shouting match between coaches, the ejections of Peter Laviolette (fined $10,000) and Tony Granato (Penguins' assistant fined $2,500), led to 27 PIMs for the Flyers and 25 PIMs to the Penguins, four unsportsmanlike minors to each side, and fighting majors to Simmonds and Derek Engelland ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPgr2DwWzIk). After the game, Laviolette said "Those guys hadn't been out there in 12 minutes. It's a gutless move by their coach. It's gutless." Penguins' head coach Dan Bylsma said "It's clearly a cheap shot. It's clearly a guy targeting a player that was well after the whistle," regarding Brayden Schenn's cross-check of Sidney Crosby following the Penguins' third goal ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6yYQ-Lwy7g ). Game highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ov4pe...feature=relmfu and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDsVK...feature=relmfu

  • 2012 -- April 7 -- The Penguins won the regular season finale 4-2 at Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby's (1-1-2) PPG with 2:06 left in the second period was the go-ahead goal and Evgeni Malkin's 50th (1-1-2) with 12 seconds remaining in the same period gave Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead. Chris Kunitz (1-1-2) also scored and had two points. Marc Andre-Fleury (14 saves, 15 shots) was replaced by Brent Johnson (5 saves, 6 shots) in an otherwise meaningless game with playoff seedings already finalized. Brayden Schenn (1-1-2) and Jaromir Jagr (1-1-2) scored for the Flyers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 19 saves. Harry Zolniercyk and Joe Vitale fought 2:22 into the game ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh45mMXUwqc ). Zac Rinaldo was tossed in the first period http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWMB2RMGCiY). Lets hope the refs dont get out of hand with calling too many penalties. But then again, now the NHL is "angry" about Briere's offside goal so I think we can expect the refs playing a big part in this game..

I expect us to split the away series, so a win would just be a pleasant surprise.

I do believe we'll see 8 PP's for the Pens and 4-5 for us. Special teams snooze fest.

Hopefully Lavy uses his timeout after the anthem and they come out to play in the first...

It's a real pity the NHL isn't angry about Orpik's cheap shot on one of our star players - a really late dirty and typical hit by that dirtbag.

I hope the Flyers get a big lead in this one so they can focus on giving Crysbaby a recurrence.

I expected this series to be 1-1 going back to Philly but 2-0 would really be something. Can't have a start like the other night, would be nice to score first for once and not look back.

I'm more worried about the Penguins than the refs. I have yet to see Crosby quit at any point in his career, I doubt he'll let his team quit on this series down 1 game. But if we can come out with this win, that could prevent this series from turning the other way. Go Flyers

Lavi better get them going from minute 1.
