Although I don't agree with the decision on him, he will carry a heavy weight for the rest of his life... and luckily for him, Snyder's parents forgave and saved his ass.
IMO, DUI should be pretty cut and dry... it's easy to get a cab/don't drink - wasn't he so wasted he pissed himself while driving? No idea how he got off... disgusting.

How his parents felt has no bearing on that type of crime. Besides, with his cash flow he could have rented a limo to take him home.
There have always been two sets of laws, the elite/celeb/etc and the rest of us. Accept it and move on I suppose.

seriously, if you didnt sit through the trial and have no concept of the law as your post screams out, who cares what you think?

Vaive was literally pissed drunk. He should do the punishment like the rest of us would. It's not right. He's just lucky the guy reported him before he killed somebody.
That's 2 ex-leafs who got away with DUI, Ramage and now Vaive. The old school culture/mentality still exists and is proudly on display through these two. Embarrassing if you ask me. But then again James was out there for a loooong time before he was brought to court, and then he only received two years.

Tell us how you know all this when the courts thought otherwise?

It would be nice if posters knew something about what they seem to have hard views on.
Read up on Ramage.
It'll take about a year maybe more to see it through again, too much time and energy in wasting the tax payers dollars. It probably won't be revisited but stranger things have happened.
Billy D must have been his lawyer he's been saving Vaive's ass since the two where traded from Vancouver.

Read up on Ramage.
Imprisoned former Toronto Maple Leaf captain Rob Ramage has been paroled to a halfway house in London, Ontario, after 10 months behind bars and despite insisting he does not remember getting drunk the day he killed his close friend.
I'm so sorry, I never knew that killing someone should only give you 10 months in jail, so I suppose that your OK that James got 2 years for molesting ALL those boys for ALL those years. It after all was a worse crime so the sentence is deserving right?
Do you honestly think that Ramage got a deserving punishment? If Magnuson had have killed Ramage would the penalty have fit the crime? Celebrity has it's privilege in this world admit it. If Ramage killed your family member in this instance would you be so forgiving?? I really don't think so.
The toxicologist said in court that he had 15-20 drinks in the hours (not the course of the day) leading up to the crash, but no-one remembers him "being impaired". Is it a case of you don't tell so I won't? Seriously, Ramage and Magnuson had bought a 6 pack at a liquor store and sat in the parking lot drinking them at 11:30am!!
You do also remember that he filed an appeal right? That to me states that he thought the sentence was too stiff and wanted a mulligan via re-trail, he STILL says he doesn't remember getting drunk that day. He sounds like he's really remorseful and on the path of rehabilitation. Regardless, I wish him luck with his re-integration into society.

Heatley wasn't charged with a DUI as his blood alcohol level didn't warrant such a charge. I don't know if you were implying that but it seems like some people believe just that in this thread.
In defense of Rick Vaive, he has a bladder condition (other than old-man-itis?) which factored into the fact he urinated in his pants.
Fact :
He admitted in court to having SIX BEERS, twice his self imposed limit of three (and you could raise the question of that limit being too high, depending on the time span those drinks were consumed over).
Fact :
His unadmittable breath test showed he had a blood alcohol level twice the legal limit. It was not admittable because it was taken over two hours after he was pulled over (you could believe that was suspiciously convenient if you like...).

I don't disagree. There is a former NHLer in northern ontario, where I do business, who has been pulled over several times for drinking and driving and ends up getting a drive home, beer in hand. In theory laws should apply to everyone; but in some instances, it doesn't.
