Guilty or innocent, my point is that even though he was found guilty he was given a slap on the wrist. Even though the evidence was found against his favour the judge( who is obviously a leaf/hockey fan) decided that Ramage had paid his price (the death of his friend) and should only *receive* 4 years. Due to good behavior Ramage did time that equaled out to be 10 months. People serve 10 months for theft and assault. I am saying that the punishment IMO didn't fit the crime, so it was as if the defendant was found innocent. Another thing is you try and get a job after you come out of jail and then see easy RR had a job fall into his lap.

I'm not defending anyone, but this line doesn't make any sense. He was found guilty and punished. That's not innocence. You're obviously so emotional about this that you can't think/type coherently. Just sayin'.

wrong, though the breathalyzer results were tossed, he was acquitted

Why are you defending drunk drivers?
ha, does this imply you read them?

wow, mccarthyism at its finest

thankfully, judging by mainstream public reaction the opinions cited above make up only a tiny fraction of general sentiment

lets honour vaive!

This thread screams of youthful idealism - at it's worst unfortunately.

None of the participating members in this thread are qualified to issue a judgement against Rick Vaive, and I doubt that anyone is familliar enough with the evidence to even cast aspersions. This thread stinks of lynch mob mentality... flail away guiltless wonders!

Before anyone suggests it - I don't drink at all.

Re-read my post - twice if you need to. Rick Vaive was not convicted of drinking and driving regardless of what you may believe. I would also advise any and all of the membership who may not be aware of such things to do a quick google search on Canadian libel laws.

Rick Vaive has never been convicted of DUI = it's a bad idea to declare that he is guilty... at least on a public internet forum anyhow.

I hope that anyone who has posted here - with their handful of throwing stones - is able to recieve a fair and unbiased trial if they ever stray (or are percieved to have strayed) outside the limits of the law. God forbid any of you are ever subjected to the absolute judgement of a group of your peers who aren't in a position to judge you.

I obviously agree that it's highly irresponsible to drink and drive, but lets not become so blinded by propaghanda and advertising campaigns that we allow the issue to eclipse the recognition of our legal rights as free citizens.

Finally a voice of reason, 2/3 of HFBoards seem to be proponents of drinking and driving. My niece was hit by a DD and that driver was released on her own recognizance, 8 months later that driver killed a cop at a roadside stop.

thinkinfeller........Aspersion?? Really, did you have to use that million dollar word? Was defaming or slanderous too cheap for you? Or are you always as condescending as what you've wrote? You must be a teacher or gov't worker.

Do you always view things in black and white? Are all of your opinions and judgements on others based on your own limited life experiences? You must be a teenager.

As an aside, there is no shame in using grown-up words.

13) Libel: Any posts libeling players, prospects, or hockey personnel. It's not acceptable to post that you heard Player X has a drinking/drug/sex/personal problem from a "good" source. Do not post information that can be considered defamatory without a link to a credible media source. Other forums, personal websites, hearsay, and personal testimonials are not considered credible.

No one has even posted a link to this news.

Closing it down.
