What would your trade proposel for Nick Lidstrom be?
Detroit would have to eat some salary in almost any deal, so write that in as well.
I'll start.
To Det: 1st rounder 05, C Nik Antropov.
To Tor: D Nick Lidstrom (+ 4 Million of salary paid)
Be prepared for abuse from your fellow wings fan. Lidstrom is the best defenceman in the world. Trade him for that garbage AND PAY PART OF HIS SALARY??
This might be the most pointless thread to ever appear on here. Lidstrom is untradeable, and there is nothing I would take in return for him.
And dont start with the "if Gretzky was traded, then anybody is tradeable" argument. Gretzky was traded for $$$$ reasons. Detroit will never have that problem.
Any team that traded much for Lidstrom isnt thinking IMO.
At his age, why would you give up a lot of good young talent to get him?
A late first round pic and Nik A., isnt going to cut it. You have to think that the leafs would take Nik only as cup contenders, so there first rounder is late.

I take it you have very little faith in the wings scouting department.

To be honest with you I really low balled on my proposal, just to get the ball rolling so to speak. There is no way I would trade Nik for a late 1st and Antropov (who I do not like anyhow).
Assuming that the Predators could afford to keep him for 2 - 3 years, I would offer: 1st in 04, 1st in 05, and either two mid range prospects (Soin, Kulaysh, etc.)....or one of a slightly higher ranged prospect such as a Glazachev.
Even then, I think the Preds come out smelling like roses.

1. The teams #1 defensive prospect/or a young stud d-man already playing in NHL i.e. Hamhuis or whoever.
2. A blue chip forward prospect, someone with the potential to play on top 2 lines
3. A good toss in, like an above average 3rd liner (Jan Bulis type)
4. A 1st rounder.
Now, most people are going to say that it is way too much for lidstrom because of his salary. He is expensive.
The reason the wings would ask for so much is the same reason they'd ask the moon and stars for Yzerman, Draper, or Lidstrom. They've been life long wings, and their value is so high to the moral of the team, that it would take a helluva lot to get them out of the uniform. And in those three cases, i dont think you can.

Winnipeg Jets nostalgics may take exception to your identification of Draper as a "lifelong wing"
We want Pronger, and our draft picks and young players are nearly imposible to move. Especially with JF jr's new mindset. I'm not underrating Lidstrom, we would be robbing the Wings in this trade but we don't need him. With him, our # 1 one season ago is a number 4 (kaberle).

Just curious, what is JFK Jr.s "new mindset"??? DIdn't he just sign Belfour, Niewendyk & Roberts to moronic deals in the summer??? Sounds like the same old silliness to me.....
he has started to work on the future of the team (retooling).. Although the Leetch deal does sound contradictary. He has promised not to trade first rounders, Lidstrom is great.. but not for a Leaf 1st rounder.

Lidstrom is worth any first rounder, next year.....save for MAYBE Crosby, depending what type the team is thats drafting no. 1 overall. Even then, Lidstrom is the defensemen everyone wants. He is still close to his prime....he has arguably one of the highest trade values in the league, withstanding his contract....He is the best defensemen in the NHL and one of the best of recent memory. A 1st rounder of a team in the playoffs, is pocket change for Lidstrom.
Lidstrom has little trade value. Not to say he's not a great player - he's a fantastic player - but his age and salary makes it hard to justify to send assets out for him. The trade value for players with say 6+ mill salary is pretty low in general - for 10+ mill players, it's ESPECIALLY hard (I seem to remember he makes around 10).
It'd have to be a salary dump approach for any suitors to step up, methinks.

Just to add to what your saying......
since The Wings are always contenders what in the world would you get rid of the best defenseman for?
Hamuis + a first rounder for Lidstrom would be about right.
As a Preds fan, I wouldn't give much up for Lidstrom. There's no way in hell we could afford him. Even if there was a Salary Cap, bringing in a number that big would be crazy. Maybe if we were in a position whereby adding Lidstrom would make us a cup contender, then I would consider it. But only if we had to pay a quarter to half a years salary.
The only way the Preds acquire Lidstrom is if they think they can get more on the market for him than the Red Wings can. We trade X for him and then trade him for X+1. But I just don't see that happening.
