Pittsburgh-Washington Trade Proposal

To all Washington fans and NHL lovers around the world, I would like to hear comments on if this trade would work out or not. Please add to it if needed.

To Washington:
Ryan Stone
Sergei Anshikov
2nd Round Draft Pick

To Pittsburgh:
Alexander Semin
and Future Considerations (Either Money or a later rounds pick)

I just don't think trades like these work. Stone and Anshakov are both very good prospects, but to me at least, Semin is worlds ahead of both. If the pens wanted to pry Semin away from the Caps, Orpik would likely be the starting point. I could also see a package of:

Welch
Anshakov
2005 2nd rd pick

being closer value-wise, but still not do-able from the caps POV. If I were GMGM, the only way I trade Semin is for a young stud defenseman.

Caps wouldn't be interested.

So like Semin for Hamhuis?

To me that one makes more sense, but I still don't think either team would do it. I think in general teams don't trade stud prospects away, even if they are getting another one in return.

Yeah, that is a trade I would probably do. I'm a huge Hamhuis fan.

I would make that deal in a heartbeat

Getting Stone would be nice b.c it can never hurt to have a center that clicks extremely well with a guy like Fehr...but those two havent seen success as a dou outside of the WHL on a regular basis, so who knows if that carries over to the next level...if the chemistry doesnt work out, then the capitals are left with another player in the same mold as of alot the caps prospects, two way guys that will never have breakout offensive seasons

Semin has the scoring punch that very few of the Capitals prosecpts have shown and its no secert that the team (outside of a huge free agent signing) is going to have struggles putting the pucks in the next from the first line down....but with Hamius we might take a hit at the foward postion with the loss of Semin, but we certainly add solid depth on our blueline....paired with guys like witt, morrison, eminger, and with cutta and yonkman on the fringe, Hamuis will provide alot of stability in the capitals own end...but I dont the Preds would move him

As a Pens fan I would not want this. Nothing against Semin, i'd just rather hang on to those guys.

Same here. I'd love Semin(...remember guys, it's pronounced See-yeh-men...) but that's a hefty price. I have very high hopes for both Stone and Anshakov plus that 2nd round pick is going to be probably early 30s in a very deep draft.

So would Orpik go straight up for Semin?

Brooks Orpik is the future captain of the Penguins. Why in the world would they even think of trading him?

PASS!

Why's everyone trying to move Semin?

the caps aren't looking to move him. And, yes, a strong defenseman would have to be the return. But... I'd probably want a guy who's already played 4-5 years in the league and starting to hit his peak.

Not Ryan Stone.

Thanks for all your input, I was just wondering if it was possible to Alex Semin to come to the "Burgh".
Since Eric Fher (Washington Prospect) and Ryan Stone (Pittsburgh Prospect) are lighting it up in the WHL I was getting a feel for some trade value.

I dont like it at all from the Caps side.....

In order for that to work out both Fehr and Stone would have to make it at the NHL level as top 6 forwards.....its just too early to tell about either of them IMO. There has been many a prospect to light it up in juniors and not be able to make that jump at the NHL level (or the AHL for that matter).....with Semin I think we have seen a guy who will be a top line player. There have been several NHL games where he is one of the most noticable player on the ice...if not THE most. I am not calling him a star of course.....or even guaranteeing he ever will be.....but of all the guys mentioned I say he has the biggest upside, is closest to fullfilling it, and with his play at the end of the year and his #'s this season in the RSL he is showing that he will be a top player

No to every proposal in this thread from both a Pitts and Wash standpoint.
