I blame CBC for making this game so close! They buried it on CHEX in standard def and the players couldn't see the net properly. By the time OT rolled around, CBC HD picked up the game and look what happened. A sniper-like goal.

All kidding side, I wonder if the Bruins are going to test Holtby's glove side more. Millen mentioned that the guy holds his catcher with the end of the glove facing down more than other goalies; something he carried over from playing baseball. It might cause him to be a split second late on high glove side shots. Just a thought.

Other observations:

Team defense was rock solid. The Caps' "big guys" we're invisible all night.

Hats off to Thomas. He didn't have much to do in the first 40 but he remained focussed and picked up the shutout.

I thought Marchand had a bad 20-30 minutes to start the game. He mixed it up like he always does but I thought he had a tough time handling the puck. I also noticed him lose an edge a few times as well. Could be bad ice on both accounts because the puck was bouncing but for some reason Marchand stood out to me as a guy I expect to contribute more.

Seeing Seguin play the body a few times was nice to see.

I'd share my observations on the power play but there was no power play to observe. If I was on my laptop and not my phone, I'd include the "beating a dead horse" graphic.

At the end of the night, the Bruins are up 1-0. They played hard and pounded the Caps. I expect the Bs to wear them down to the point where Washington has nothing left my a game 6, if it gets that far.

After reading that last sentence, it sounds arrogant and it's but meant to but I that's the way I think it will unfold.

I hate to agree with Dale Arnold, but I thought Kelly should have won the 7th player award.

I'm not sure I didn't expect Seguin to have a great year. I was totally shocked when Kelly earned the alternate captain. Then I paid a little more attention to him and the guy is solid.

And I'm assuming the chain is this year's "ugly jacket" but I haven't read the thread yet, so I imagine somebody already mentioned it.

That's what I thought was funny.

"You know, they call them goalie 'pads' because they literally provide a 'padding' for goaltenders when the puck comes at them. For when they make (if I'm saying this correctly) a... Save."

Holtby....keep going after the glove. EXTREMELY WEAK. Bobbled lots of pucks. Fatal flaw.

Fair enough... most of the commentary is pretty tune-out worthy, especially on NBC.

I thought the ice looked awful. It didn't seem like either team was able to really pass the puck and handle it well.

Overall I think Marchand and Seguin both seemed to be forcing things at times-maybe it was nerves. Hopefully with this win under their belts they will settle down.

Overall team defense was good though. There were only a few really awful, scary moments where the puck was turned over, and the first 10 minutes of the 3rd were scary, but overall not a bad start.
