Report: Madonna to Prepare for World Tour in Nassau Coliseum
The Material Girl is setting up shop at the Nassau Coliseum.
Madonna, the biggest-selling female recording artist in history, will take over the Uniondale arena beginning Monday to build a massive stage and set for her upcoming world tour, according to a source familiar with the deal.
Under an agreement reached this week, Coliseum employees and the artist's road crew will occupy the arena through late May, the source said. Madonna is expected to appear for rehearsals and show preparations, though there are no plans for her to perform publicly at the arena.
watch the county use this to say the building is fine
That's because the building is fine.
Finding asbestos in a building built when the Coliseum was built is not unusual. Back in the day, it was used quite a bit in construction as a fire retardant and insulator. If you live in a home built before roughly 1980, guess what, chances are you've got asbestos in your house too. Left undisturbed, there is nothing wrong with asbestos. The harm comes when the particles become airborne.
What was found in the Coliseum is minimal and in areas not accessible by the public. This whole thing is much ado about nothing.

The building is fine on that aspect but not updated as modern or enough bathrooms etc..They are redoing all the seats in the 100's this season though.
The county is going to say the building is fine as is because Superstar Madonna is performing there. Insinutating that we do not need a new arena and people will perform there.
Remember " Islanders Entertainment" is behind booking all the acts at NVMC ...as Wang makes money from Concerts as well.

Based on the OP, it doesn't sound as if Madonna is actually performing there. I believe she's just using it as a place to rehearse her show.
Good thing the Isles sucked again this year. Where would Madge be able to rehearse if the Isles were in the playoffs?

I was not talking about the Asbestos. I was talking about it needed a update

She's practicing there not performing as NVMC isn't good enough. Like a warehouse. She goes to better arenas to perform.
"Cash-strapped Nassau County, which owns the Coliseum but does not collect revenue directly from arena shows, will not receive any funds from the Madonna contract. Revenue will go to an entity controlled by SMG. Charles Wang , owner of the Coliseum's major tenant, the New York Islanders hockey team, participates in the arrangement, the source said. Wang did not return calls for comment."
This proves that despite the improved lease, Wang doesn't get ALL of the money from events at NVMC - SMG does, and Wang "participates". He gets some piece of it but not ALL of the total amount that has repeatedly been mentioned wrongly on this board. Revenue is still limited.

from Madonna's hand to Charles Wang to Ryan Suter's Pocket.....Yeahh Rite....
I think the real story here is the amount of open dates at the NVMC. With the recent addition of The Rock in Newark, the new building in Brooklyn, and MSG, the Coliseum is going to fall to a distant fourth for bands, circus, etc to perform at.
I hope Nassau is keeping a close eye on the old meadowlands arena. Look how far that place has fallen since the Devils left.

I'd say the Coliseum is lucky to be tied for fourth with the Izod at this point. Based on the fact that the Izod got One Direction over the Coliseum, I'd put the NC in fifth (maybe 6th behind Jones Beach.)
