All of my friends that follow hockey and actually watch the games are Ranger fans.

To me, the Rangers are a religion...I don't know any other way to be a Ranger fan.

They are my oldest friend, at this point.

And it's only the first game of the 1st round.

If they get to even the ECF, it's going to be absurd.

It's more because most Devils fans are stupid and petty.

See, I know a lot of Devils fans, being married to CJ and all, and a lot of them are really nice people, but I can't help but agree with you on that a little. For example, last night they're bashing the Rangers cause we released streamer confetti after the win..saying that it was obnoxious and that you should only do that after you win a cup. A.) you do fireworks when you win a cup. B.) It's the playoffs, so as far as I'm concerned if you wanna jazz it up a little, I don't have an issue with it..and C.) Shut the frig up. Worry about your own friggin' team and stop obsessing over what we do and always trying to pick us apart. Their inferiority complex over a team that has 2 cups in 72 years as compared to their "3 Cups in 8" is mind boggling.

Boston experienced it last season, tons of bandwagon fans and no nothings came out in force. Everyone became a Bruin's fan in Boston.

Expect the EXACT same thing to happen if the Rangers win the cup. People, especially those who only have a passive understanding/interest of sports only care when the good times come around.

Be prepared for the pink hats/shirts and phrases like "get the puck", and "hit the dude"

In some ways its good especially for the younger fan base who will become the next generation of Ranger fans.

I saw some of that, couldn't help but laugh. They won't admit it but there's an inferiority complex for sure. Happens whenever you're the second team in an area, I see it as a Met fan with fellow Met fans. A lot of them are just as happy when the Yanks lose as they are when the Mets lose. A lot of them are good posters there (with the exception of one huge Rangers hater who you all know) but I don't know why they go nuts over the Rangers. Any time there's a chance to jump on the Rangers, they do.

In addition to the streamers and confetti, there was a burst of fireworks from the jumbo-tron during the announcement of the 3 stars.

Oh I agree, and as a Mets fan, I sometimes even get caught up with the Yankees losing. But that's mostly cause of the jerk*** bandwagoners that THEY have!

No, I agree 100%. Devil fans do have the inferiority complex. It probably was over the top (just like the fans chanting "We want the cup"), but it was still pretty cool nonetheless.

BTW, kinda OT, but the "Sit Down Yellow" chant was epic lol. It was started by the guy one section over from me in 305. Could that chant be heard on TV? Anyone not at the game must have been like...wtf lol

Expect to see more of that crap.

She probably can't name 5 players on our team.

Other than overt insecurities regarding your own fandom, I dont understand why so many people get pissed off at the "bandwagon fans" especially considering our location. This team plays in the biggest city in the world, so what else do you expect?

See, that I did not even hear last night, and I was relieved, cause I have a problem with that so early in the playoffs. I feel that should be save for the actual Finals or at least the Conference Finals. One thing that did annoy me last night was all the USA chants cause we're playing a Canadian team. Um..we have Canadians on our team people..including 2 of our biggest stars!

Agreed.

Every fan base is going to deal with it. Especially in the biggest media market in the country.

I never get this. "I am REALLY passionate about the New York Rangers. Even though there was nothing to be excited about, I watched them, because that's how passionate I am. Now that there is something to be excited about, other people like them too and thats just wrong. You should only be allowed to cheer for a team if you stick with them when they suck."

How is this even remotely logical?

Devils fans are crazy obsessed over our team, even though they won't admit it. They were arguing over whether or not it was in the Rangers' interest to burn a year off Kreider's ELC. What difference does it make to you? And so what if confetti was thrown after a win? they follow every step of this team's news. And tonight, unlike them, I'm not going to obsessively watch their Game 1.

I'm watching Philly-Pittsburgh instead.

Its not.

The annoying part is though, those fair weather fans will gush about the team when they win. You prod them a little bit and you find out that they are utterly clueless.

Its just annoying, nothing more.

The difference between the Rangers and other cities (Pittsburgh/Washington specifically) is that we have always had a solid fan base that sold out MSG regularly and follow the team on a regular basis. Penguins and Capitals could barley fill half the arena back in the early 2000's -- I remember I went to a game back at the old Verizon Center (I forgot the name back then), and the upper deck was actually closed off and half the crowd was cheering for the other team.

That USA chant was directed at a lone Alfreddson fan (literally, the only Sens fan in the building) who was standing up and provoking the crowd behind him. I believe he was escorted out in the 3rd, but it was hard to see.

To be fair dude, a big reason why we sell out is because of corporate seating. Same thing for Toronto as well.

We do have a more loyal core fan base than those two franchises. But they aren't the ones selling out the games. They are getting priced out.

So educate them. I don't think it's annoying when someone who doesn't follow hockey with the intensity I do doesn't know as much as me. To me, that's just looking for something to look down your nose at others over.
