Rick Nash is a winger.

thoughts? (both teams win on this one I think - we get to the playoffs with a consistent center and they can rebuild with 2 solid pieces)
a) That's probably less than they were offered at the deadline. Either way, they'd be looking for defenceman and centers over a winger.

b) I really doubt we're the list of teams Nash would waive his NTC clause for.

As I pretty much posted in the other thread you posted this in...
Its sooooo far from what Columbus would want and receive for Rick Nash. A decent draft pick (in a decent at best draft), and a player who is very inconsistent and in no way a franchise player for a top winger. Chevy would look like a moron.

You never know. Maybe Rick Nash rocked out a jets jersey in his younger days.

Nash is not a centre. Regardless, I don't think that Burmi plus our 1st is anywhere near enough to pry Nash out of Columbus.

strange that I've seen zero suggestion that Zajak would consider Winnipeg

I seem to remember someone made a post that they were either friends with Zajac, or knew someone who was. The idea was that he might not be interested in playing in Winnipeg due to the distractions of being close to home.

The only solution is to sign Zach Parise.

Zajac will then follow his friend here

I was going to make a post saying the same thing as I am friends with Zajac's cousin but I chose not to originally so I wouldn't have a bunch of people jump down my throat by asking for proof or something, but ya basically his cousin said he wasn't really interested in playing in winnipeg he enjoys his privacy and likes being able to go out with out having to sign an autograph everytime he turns a corner.

Did his cousin tell you where he was leaning towards signing?

I have a suspicion that it will be new jersey.

Since the Dallas stars missed the playoffs, is it conceivable that they may be looking to shake **** up there as well?

Another name that came up on the main boards was Matt Niskanen of the Pens. He is an RFA 26 years old, has had 4 solid years now, and can play a variety of roles well. PIT would probably be looking for picks which the Jets have quite a few of them. Would be a solid player depending on the price I could see the Jets being interested.

He's extremely soft. Sidney Crosby kicked his ass before, that's all you need to know. I'd rather go after a tough, defense first d-man (Allen, Jackman, Sarich, etc).

So we make our defense worse and hope to bring in someone through FA? We need more help on D.

Basically, another Mark Stuart that can handle 20+ minutes a night. If Hainsey was our #5 defenseman, we'd be good.

Enstrom-Bogo
Buff-Sarich/Jackman/whoever
Stuart-Hainsey/or whoever replaces him in another year because I don't think he'll be here much longer.

If the Coyotes don't re-sign Gilbert Brule, I wouldn't mind giving him a shot. He's looked pretty good for the Coyotes tonight.

Plus there's the Giants connection with Machacek and Kane.

I think this would be quite good. I am really hoping we can sign a defesneman like Barret Jackman.

You got it. Our team needs to be tougher to play against. If we can't match teams with skill, then we need to grind them down with physicality.

The best thing about a defense like that is that you would have 5 guys that could handle 20+ minutes a night. The benefits of having that many guys that can play those minutes every night would be great and give us much more favorable match-ups.

Not for Enstrom obviously, but I would love to get Vlasic on the Jets, he would be a great fit here excellent defensive D.

As for Niskanen he plays a excellent possession game has been above average for 4+ years now, can play 2nd PP as well. If you want more toughness on the bottom pair I get that personal choice I guess. I don't put a whole lot of value on it but if you value it in the defence then I get that.

It also helps with potential injuries to our top 4. I like the flexibility it allows us.

Absolutely. And I think you nailed in by describing one of our defensive needs as another Mark Stuart but one that can handle 20+ minutes.
