Here's a questions from a former New Yorker, is there any way to build an arena where Shea Stadium was? That was a place that had easy access by train or by car. Or has that spot already be redeveloped into somthing else?

cause the Wilpons really don't wanna give up revenue for an area for a joke of a franchise(islanders). That's your so what.
You know they DID talk about building an arena together awhile ago and a citi Field parking lot is apparently among the locations the Isles are interested in.
just that the Islanders are interested. All I know is that they discussed having an arena either in the Citi Field lot, or Flushing Meadow Park, over by the tennis complex. They also discussed, and this is the first I have heard of this, the old Flushing airport grounds in Whitestone, which are currently abandoned, and are the very first exit off the Whitestone Bridge.
Anyway, nothing in detail has happened, or is scheduled to happen, mutual interest has simply been exchanged between the NYI and Queens. They are not even remotely close to discussing things such as financing, lease agreements, ownership, or partners. If anything really big were to actually happen in Queens, I would probably be the first one to hear it since my mom, and my neighbor both work with/for Queens councilmembers.
I haven't been to that area in years, but I can remember going to shea and the parking lot being filled when shea was 1/2 full. Unless things have changed and that area has gotten bigger, it make no sense for the Wilpons to do that. The Wilpons have turned the corner so to speak and would want probably a decent chunk of revenue from the Coliseum in their parking lot and I doubt Wang is willing to do that. In the end I can see the isles in Queens.
My second fav is the DRW, but MAN I love old school hockey, and especially against the whiny little Pens.
Exactly, The Flyers have always played tough. For some reason even when they were not good they had guys making it interesting and guys standing up for the reputation of the Jersey. Even now they have gone out against the Pens and have shown them no respect. This is like Rocky verse Clubber Lang in the beginning of Rocky III.

Another possibilty for queens if that were to ever happen is next to the us tennis open. there has been alot of talk about tearing down the louis armstrong stadium next to the arthur ashe stadium to build an indoor facility or one with a retractable roof. the islanders can partner up with the u.s.t.a. and build a multi-purpose facility that houses both the islanders and tennis. the good thing about doing this is they have no red tape to worry about. they would be replacing one facility with another. i think that would be the best option when the team leaves nassau county. you have plenty of parking for us long islanders who refuse to take public transportation.
LOL, Is it any worse than sharing a home with the wiggles and disney on ice? I actually think building near the tennis center in Queens it is an interesting concept and could make a lot of sense. Unfortunately, as in all of the good ideas put forward the gigantic "IF" is to get someone to buy into it and pony up the $$$$..
Didn't the NY Sets play in the coliseum way back when.

Sounds better than the Brooklyn options. Any option viable in Nassau?

Yep and OTB used to have a cheesy ad for the ny bets playing off those names... still remember ages ago watching tiny archibald and Dr J at the coliseum
Opponents of the Willets Point redevelopment project rallied last week in support of a federal bill that could put the brakes on the multibillion-dollar project, but opponents said the measure would economically cripple the city.

NEW YORK -- NHL commissioner Gary Bettman says Brooklyn may not be a viable potential destination for the New York Islanders because it's hard to reach for the team's fan base in Long Island and Queens.
!!
And the team moving out of state, will be easier for the NYI fanbase to reach?
What an idiot, it will have no impact on the people that live in nassau, its an easy train ride. It will open up doors for a different market in brooklyn

I think you seriously underestimate the love affair with the car that Nassau and Suffolk folk have.
Typical Bettman, he "attempts" to want to keep teams in their markets despite no options, then when other viable options arise he'll shoot them down with some BS excuse. When there is no owner or arena they leave.
