This guy is a steal at 89. Super effective in the WHL Final against the Oil Kings playing on the Hawks' second line. Should be interesting to see what he can do with Petan and Leipsic (presumably Portland's first line next year) in the coming season!

I read this on VG:

- Det var først snakk om at jeg kunne gå så tidlig som i tredje runde, men så var det en spiller på tavlen de hadde regnet med skulle være tatt. Dessuten tradet de bort et par valg i fjerde- og femte runde. Det hadde uansett ikke så mye å si for meg å bli valgt i sjette runde. Jeg hadde nettopp snakket med Columbus, og de har uttrykt stor tro på meg, sier Søberg.

Translated via google, as I am too lazy:

That was the first question that I could go as early as the third round, but then there was a player on the board they had expected would be taken. Moreover, they traded away a couple of choices in the fourth and fifth round. It did not matter so much to say to me to be selected in sixth round. I had just talked to Columbus, and they have expressed great confidence in me, says Søberg.

That player they did not expect to be there in the 3rd round, could that be Olly?

And it is awesome that CBJ doesn't have the same phobia of smaller players, as pretty much the rest of the league.

On another note:

-----------------------------------

I think HF's own anaysis of Olly, sums it up pretty well:

"Heavy shot and a quick release. Aggressive forechecker with little fear of traffic in attacking zone. Responsible defensively, but strong suit is a nose for the net."
THis was a comment towards the big club. Didn't say this at the draft but I'm sure the same idea applies.
Kekalainen said the Blue Jackets would like to add size to their cast of forwards, but not size alone.

“If you ask anybody, they’d take a 6-5 guy who scores 30 goals over a 5-8 guy who scores 30 goals,” Kekalainen said. “But me personally, I prefer the small guys who play with big heart to the big guys who are less passionate.”

I swear, it was such a scoop by CBJ to get Jarmo.. Id love the guy in Vancouver.

I agree that late 3'rd pick was a lot lower than expected, but his lack of size kept many away. But he is not afraid to play physically and he might still grow a bit...
But his greatest asset must be his wrist shot, so I really look forward to him being on Portland's 1'st line next season!

Oliver Bjørkstrand has started well this season for Portland Winterhawks and leads the WHL in points.

First game he had a massive 1G 4A in the 9-2 win over Prince George Cougars.
Second game was a bit more quiet with 1G 0A in a 3-4 shootout loss to Seattle Thunderbirds (where Roberts Lipsberg scored twice for Seattle).

Bjorkstrand is playing with Petan now but any idea who the 3rd player on that line is? Petan had a very good camp in Winnipeg.

Not sure who was the 3rd player yesterday, but it will we Leipsic now. He just got cut from the Preds and was the WHL leadingscorer last year.

Chase DeLeo

Edit: I think Leier is also getting time with those two.

DeLeo is really exceptional on offense as well, that line will be beastly all year.

6 goals and 6 assists in 4 games so far. Not that I expect him to keep that pace, but that's a pretty hot start. Any input on how he looks aside from the stats would be much appreciated. Really happy with this pick from a CBJ standpoint, as he looked pretty good in training camp as well.

I have watched a few WHL games and he looks boss! Has really stepped up to the responsability given to him.

Scored 2 shorties in the 10-4 blowout and they were beauts

Has the return of Brendan Leipsic knocked De Leo down a line? Is it now Leipsic with Petan and Bjorkstrand? Where is De Leo playing on the depth chart now, and with which line mates?

Oliver Bjørkstrand keeps scoring and added 2 goals in the Portland 6-4 win over Spokane.
The 3-1 goal had some really nice Bjørkstrand-Petan-Bjørkstrand magic and also a fast wrister for 5-2.
http://www.winterhawks.com/video/ind...e53835a4c594da

He has now 8G 6A in 5 games and second in WHL after Mitch Holmberg (from Spokane).
Clearly an improvement from last season where he was a little bit under a PPG all season.
Must cheer up some Columbus fans.....

Is he only scoring in blowouts? Because that seems to be where he has gotten a good number of his points from.

or it becomes a blowout when he scores
Well like last season Portland scores a lot of goals and actually he did score in the 3-4 loss to Seattle, so not only in blowouts.

The first time I saw Bjørkstrand, his shot really stood out to me as a plus to his game. Honestly looks like it's got significantly better since last season.

He's got an excellent release, very quick. His shot isn't very hard yet, but look at the kid, he looks 11 or 12 years old, it will only improve.

I had him as a top 50 player. I really like what CBJ is doing these days, glad they're in the east so it's easier to cheer for them to do well now.

Olli with another 3 points tonight

1g and 2a. So he now has 18pts in 8games. Good enough for 3rd in WHL, with a game in hand compared to 1 and 2.

Scored a beauty shootout yesterday after being taken down on a scoring chance.
