Btw. It would be shame if we didn't see Holzer next year in the NHL.
I can see the following players from Mannheim and Berlin being considered:

Most likely:
Constantin Braun
Nikolai Goc
Frank Hördler
Christoph Ullmann (unless he's retired from the national team) - I'm not sure
Frank Mauer
Marcus Kink

Good chance:
Darin Olver
Florian Kettemer

Maybe:
Matthias Plachta
Dennis Reul
Yannic Seidenberg
Jens Baxmann

Unlikely:
Daniel Weiß
Laurin Braun
Tyson Mulock
TJ Mulock
Rob Zepp

Mannheim

I think Busch is still not an option. Maybe they can work something out for next year or for the Olympics, but for this year I doubt he is even eligible, because the whole NADA stuff.

wow I was very behind in that. The last time I heard about it was when he was cleared again in 2010.

I found an article that says he won't ever play for Germany again. So, he can be scratched.

I was afraid something like this would happen, while other teams gather all their stars, we depend on our domestic players. Would have loved to see Greiss in the national jersey, hopefully he isn't mad about this.

I have a different point of view:

Most likely:

Constantin Braun
Nikolai Goc
Frank Hördler
Christoph Ullmann
Darin Olver
Rob Zepp (he should be in instead of Patzold easily)

Good chance:

Dennis Reul

Maybe:

Yannic Seidenberg
Marcus Kink
TJ Mulock

Unlikely:

Frank Mauer
Matthias Plachta
Jens Baxmann
Florian Kettemer
Daniel Weiß
Laurin Braun
Tyson Mulock

That makes no sense whatsoever. You simply do not choose guys like Pätzold or Kotschnew over an NHL-goalie. It's not like the few days those players spent with the team somehow elevates their talent-level.

If you absolutely have to get him used to the ice and team, let Endras play the first two games. That way Greiss gets training with the team and you have a much better goalie available. There simply is no excuse for leaving out Greiss.

Especially since Greiss played in europe last year, and is probably still used to play on the bigger surface. I'm kinda disappointed, I was really looking forward to seeing him play, and it would have been a chance for him to show his talent aswell, as he only played a few games this season.

I was quite surprisingly impressed by Endras' season for HIFK. They were eliminated early but he's not the one to blame. HIFK was done after winning the title the previous year. If Greiss can't make it to the WCs, Endras can easily be the starter for you guys, some really nice performances in our league. It'd also be home games for him, even though he doesn't have too good memories at the Hartwall Areena

I have never heard of most players on your roster but with good coaching, team play and defensive organisation you could upset some of the opponents in your group and make it to the quarters (will be close with Norway & Denmark IMO). Good luck with that.

Thanks, i had a hard time finding out how Endras is doing since all the sources were on suomi so thanks for that update.
Well like we all said earlier we're missing our NA players, Goc/Sturm/Seidenberg in the nhl playoffs, Holzer/Müller in the AHL, Ehrhoff injured, Hecht injured (and retired), Sulzer had some personal reasons.
We got screwed this year

But we'll accept the challenge, and maybe upset Finland later in the tournament

1000000000% agree. The first game is against Italy. I think Greiss can handle the transition against them and then let Endras play the next game vs Latvia and see how it goes from there. Finally there is a NHL player available and they think he can't be a top 3 goalie on the team because of the ice surface........

He will be on the team for the Slovakia Cup this weekend. Charlotte didn't make the AHL playoffs.

So I read through the first article, and my German is far from perfect, so did Busch fail a doping test, or did he quit the NT because of a mixup of some sort?

I think that Busch "case" dates back to 2008...

He did miss (or deny) a test. And according to the rules this is the same like a positive test. And if you're an athlete at a certain level you need to report to the doping authorities where they can find you so they could theoretically test you always. And as he doesn't want to do that he quit the NT, because "normal" hockey-players in the DEL don't need to do this, just player of the national-team.
Difficult story, ended up in in front of the highest sports court (CAS in Geneva) and after that in front of the highest Swiss court.

Too bad that Seidenberg won't be joining the team, but I guess it is understandable.
He needs a break and wants to spend some time with his kid.

He was a beast in the Caps series, he would be big upgrade for the defense core but unfortunatly...

Ehrhoff and Seidenberg for 2014.

We'll have a pretty solid team in 2014, Hoff, Seidenberg, Sulzer, Greiss, Goc, and our upcoming youngsters like Rieder, Kühnhackl, Noebels, Abeltshauser and so on..

But quick question, are we already qualified for 2014? Or do we have to match any result (beside avoiding relegation)?

To be qualified directly we have to be among the Top 9 in the IIHF World Ranking after the World Championships this year.
At the moment we are ranked 8th ahead of Norway, Slovakia, Belarus, Latvia and Denmark.
I would say it is looking pretty good, but we cannot afford to play a really bad tournament.

How could he get used to the larger playing surface without any friendly games anyway?

Aren't we lucky that our coaches are so smart?
I mean all those other teams bringing over any NHL player they can find, and they actually think they are making their teams better?

Ok some of them came over in time to play a few friendlies, but some won't.

That's not good. Our defense is going to look pretty bad without Braun and Hördler.

It's funny, the defense would look really awesome if we had all the guys who will miss the tournament.

Out of the eight defensemen I would see as the best we have, one is still in the playoffs, five are missing for other reasons and only two are on the roster.
