Poile up for GM of the Year

Quote:
Doug Armstrong of the St. Louis Blues, David Poile of the Nashville Predators and Dale Tallon of the Florida Panthers have been named the finalists for the 2012 General Manager of the Year Award.

I think Tallon gets it, unless Preds go to the Finals.

Go Poile!!!

It'd be nice if Poile could finally win one, but the other two GMs are deserving candidates as well. What Tallon did is impressive. Everyone thought he was just trying to get to the cap floor by overpaying some players, and he did, but he clearly had a plan for the appropriate kinds of players to overpay.

Poile defiantly is deserving. Tallon turned that team around though. Tough call.

With Florida being my second favorite team I'm fine if Tallon beats Poile. If Armstrong wins (which I'm sure will happen just because) I'll be really upset.

Is this another award voted on based on regular season?

If so, then its probably armstrong. Both fla and stl are huge turnarounds but armstrong added players and changed coaches whereas tallon only added players. The only way poile wins is if armstrong and tallon split evenly and poile gets slightly more than both

The Blues turnaround was all about coaching. They started awful before Hitchcock.

Poile has never won it and has deserved it several times.

for some reason I think this is Poile's year. He made all of the headlines at the trade deadline and then got Radulov back to the NHL... if not this year, then never.

Remember how we were ragging on him back in September? Guess he showed us. (Again)

I'm holding out judgment until a) he's able to resign 2 of the big remaining 3 OR b) the preds win the Cup this year

BUT if he wins the GMOTY award then promptly loses Suter and doesn't sign Weber and, to a lesser extent Radulov, to long-term deals is he really the GM of the year?

To be consistently nominated is still an achievement.
