Julien's team better and healthier than Vignault's team, on the ice, where they played the games, while both coaches watched and got in the way, mostly.
Im having lunch with him today actually...but hockey won't be the subject of the discussion... he's going to return to my class as a guest speaker in the near future, I'll ask then..
I don't know if he'll just come out and say its ****, I remeber criticzing Martin and he came right to his defence, pointing out how Martin did well getting the most out of the team... He's not the type to mock, attack or criticize other staff...
Even players, he will call them lazy, but only when I ask of his opinion...
Like I said he's very humble about his job.
Well duh. I'm an architect in a town full of architects, some of whom might hire me some day, and I'm gonna go around dissing them.
If he did not do what you say, that would be news.
McGuire watches every single game in the league, that pretty much is scouting if you ask me, cause Gauthier's scouting was beyond brutal
So any random poster on HF Boards who watches every game is pretty much an NHL scout too? There is a difference between being able to watch games and being able to judge talent, most of the time he's hyping up guys like Toews and Crosby who everyone knows are great hockey players.
Maybe he can be a great GM, maybe he can be brutal.. but if we're interviewing guys like Bergevin, BriseBois and Mackasey who are currently working as assistant GMs I'd rather take the safer bet and hire one of them instead of a guy who hasn't been working for an NHL franchsie since the 90s.
How do you know that? Anything is possible and if Pierre Gauthier got a shot as GM, so can a guy like McGuire
Well that's good. 'If an idiot can get the job, surely another idiot can too.' Now you've really convinced me. Thanks for throwing me the hanging curve.

We of all teams should know better then always taking the "safer bet". This hasn't worked very well with the last 2 GM's. I understand what you're saying and understand why some don't like McGuire, but be honest the guy knows his hockey and despite not working for an NHL team since the 90's has still been around hockey since probably even more then most scouts.
Mcguire shouldn't be "given" the job, he should be interview like everyone else and if his ideas are the best then he should be hired and we shouldn't view him as the guy who talks on the radio or TV cause that's his job right now and he will say things we know and don't want to hear
Dreger mentioned Fleury but so did Pierre McGuire.
The Vezina is awarded to the best goalie in the regular season, playoffs have nothing to do with it. Fleury was 2nd in wins don't think he will win but just saying him being nominated isn't a big deal
Malkin shouldn't be considered for the Hart since the Pens are down 3-0?

Again, as above, it was the fact that he dismissed Jonathan Quick's season that I found that interesting.
The main point remains that the Habs are an organization who goes out of their way to guard against providing information to the media and the public.
Unless they are planning to change that policy completely, I will be very surprised if McGuire is a serious candidate.
The Roy - Radulov - Grigorenko connection forming in front of our eyes
Not really impressed with their compete level. A bit off-topic but I keep hearing that Radulov is a lock if we hire Roy as coach. How are we supposed to acquire him exactly?

I disagree with the questioning of Radulov's compete level. He seems really feisty.

He's a "lock" if we give him a ridiculous contract.

A lock? Ok so how much are you willing to give Radulov (offer sheet) and are you ready to send 3 or 4 1st round picks to Nashville? Wouldn't be very smart on the Habs part
I'm not really following the GM search so who are the candidates that have been confirmed to have talked with the Habs so far..
Well Mackasey has been confirmed. I think Mcguire was confirmed as being interviewed. There were reports about us wanting Bergevin for an interview, not sure how 'confirmed' they were. Uh.. Vinny D dropped out of the 'race' so you might have heard the collective sigh of relief.
I think there was a rumour about Fenton, can't quite recall.
Actually...
If someone wouldn't mind helping me out, I could put together a collection of confirmed interviews or calls from different new sources to be kept in the OP of each thread. If anybody remembers or has any of those pages still open somehow, I'll do my best to put them together.
