does torts sort of remind you of coughlin in that they both seem to yell and throw tantrums alot and they both demand discipline. also people consider coughlin a hall of fame coach after winning his second super bowl. would you consider torts a hall of fame candidate if he wins a second stanley cup with the rangers?

Coughlin is a borderline HOF coach. His regualr season winning pct isnt that great and he doesnt have the longevity.
Torts, IMO, is a fine coach, and has a long career ahead of him. Even if he wins a Cup this year, he'll have to accomplish more down the road to get a Hall nod.
Coughlin is boring, Torts is animated. Coughlin once created dissension in the lockerroom because he was such a strict disciplinarian that sucked the life out of the team. Torts has players that would run through walls for him and he showed that he would do the same in press conferences.
well it seems like coughlin had mellowed down now then when he started with the giants all the players seemed to have really respected him last year and rallied around him. plus strahan seems to like him more than he use to.
What I like about both of them is that, above their respective sports, where they each have infamous reputations, they seem like fundamentally good, decent people.

To be fair to Coughlin, we did have players who were toxic. Barber, Shockey, how many times was Plaxico fined?
He did become more mellow. He's still strict, but he's more fair in doing so.
Torts is a very good coach, I like him a lot, I even started a Torts Appreciation Thread a while ago, but he would need to win 2 more Cups to be considered for the Hall of Fame.
The only things Coughlin and Torts have in common is they are incredibly strict and emphasize discipline above all else. As a Giants fan, Coughlin definitely complains to the referees more than Torts does -- but Football is a different game.
Torts actually has incredible respect for and restraint toward referees -- more than most coaches. Yeah he says what he says in post-game pressers and the camera's point at him and he's about to explode when there's a bad penalty but rarely does he blow up on the refs like Coughlin does. Torts actually blows up more on his players and usually directs his anger to no one in particular or to the NY media after a game
With that said, I think it is easier to get Torts to smile than it is Coughlin.
Wouldn't say Coughlin is a lock for HOF, but both are great coaches. I think Torts is a better coach despite Coughlin's 2 chips to Torts' 1, but then again we're comparing apples to oranges here.
I think the comparison is good in the sense that both of mellowed since they got here.
When Coughlin first arrived he was insane pissed alot of players off.. Ever since the first super bowl year he has mellowed and still demands alot but doesnt push it to far.
Torts was very similiar, when he first got here he was all piss and vinegar and a down right loose cannon(washington series).. i think he realized that wasnt gonna work here and he had to calm down. He still also demands alot but in a much more constructive way.

absolutely. anyone who wins championships with 2 different teams is a lock for the hall of fame. imo
