If they made it so that the puck was replaced with a live catfish, the nets were shrunk to 1/10th the size, forwards weren't allowed to shoot, players hotboxxed in the penalty box, the ice was replaced with gargantuan amounts of jell-o, a wild minotaur was released into the rink, and gestapo snipers were positioned at the suites and were given 3 bullets to shoot.
If my team moved I'd probably be super pissed and stop watching at least for a while. Luckily, my team is in the third biggest city in the United States so there's not much chance of that happening.
Actually the league is perfectly fair, even without a salary cap.
If the NHL got to the point like in the MLB where the only teams who seem to sign every big All-Star free agent player are the ones from Boston, New York, Philly, or LA (the biggest markets), what's the point of watching? The majority of teams in the uncapped MLB who make the playoffs are always in the top 10 of salaries, which are much higher than the bottom 10 could ever afford.
Sure, you'll have your surprise season or two from the bottom-salaried teams, but that's the exception, not the norm.
The NHL was such a joke when guys like Bobby Holik were making 9 million a season. That's still hilarious to me after all these years.

Sounds like you might stop watching hockey after this year then
That would be weird at first, but honestly they could look like NASCAR drivers for all I care if it would offset some of the cost of tickets so I could go to more games.
Even if they didn't reduce ticket prices, every team in Europe has ads on jerseys, you get used to it and don't even notice after a while. Just NHL fans whining as usual, it makes no difference to the game.
honestly, i'm not sure anything could make me quit following the NHL forever.
i went through a couple of years of not watching or following hockey at all in the late 90s. it was the messier/keenan era of my canucks and i was so frustrated and felt so violated by the franchise that i lost interest. there were other factors, especially moving to the US and not really being able to watch games except the finals on NBC, but it took that kind of betrayal to get me off temporarily.
i said i'd never watch an NBA game ever again after the completely crooked reffing in the 2006 finals. again, extreme sense of betrayal, but this time by the league. came crawling back eventually though, and i took last year's finals to be an apology from the league for what happened in '06.
I guess if i found out that the league was actually actively trying to fix the outcome of games/series i couldn't watch anymore cause it would be pointless.
If they discovered a link between fighting and serious brain damage then I wouldn't have a problem with them banning it tbh. We don't need hockey players Chris Benoit-ing themselves. These guys have families too. And to answer the question directly, I don't see myself ever not enjoying the NHL.

I would assume you've looked into the Boston University CTE studies. They found CTE in Boogaard, but also found CTE in Rick Martin.
I think it's gonna be a long time until it can be proved that fighting is directly linked to brain damage, and not just the game of ice hockey in general.

It would definitely take ages if it did happen. Aren't they still trying to prove it in the NFL?

Maybe then I would consider stop watching hockey.
This is a great list, you are a true fan!
Also I have no idea what it would mean for a player to 'hottbox' and since I am at work there is no way I am Googling it.
