I didn't even mention goal 2 against Crawford. It was a nice shot but it was stoppable as well. CC delivered another ho-hum, predictable performance. On the other hand, Smith stopped 45 shots, that came from a far superior offensive team than the one playing in front of him, for a .955 game. That's solid goaltending.
I'd like Lundqvist to be the Hawks goalie. That would be good.
That puck can't go in ... period. And you're right about one thing, I don't like Crawford as our #1 goalie. Never have in fact, but I'm sick of folks here making excuses for these soft goals he has been letting in all season; goals like that that are fatal in the playoffs, just as it was in game 1.
If your argument is "that puck can't go in, period" in response to what I pointed out, then even you have to realize you're reaching on this one.

No, that is GREAT goaltending. Corey's respectable .912 SV% is SOLID goaltending.
.955 SV% is incredible. We don't have an incredible goalie. We have a goalie that needs his offense to score a couple goals some nights. We couldn't get 3 goals and we lost. Maybe he has a great game tonight. If so, than he did his job and gave us a great chance to win the first two road games.
That won't work. If the internet cuts off (which it will b/c the power outage will turn off my mac AirPort) then the stream cuts off.
I actually thought of this idea...and tried doing a stream today then turning off the internet and the stream stopped immediately. I also tried getting a stream on my bb, but...denied!
At this point, i think I will have to log onto the GDT on my blackberry and life vicariously through you.
I think everyone would agree that we exchange golatenders in game 1, we win. And I would say win easily.
Game 2 will be more of the same: Crawford vs Smith. That's the way it is in the playoffs.
Now we know not to take you seriously.
Phoenix outplayed us in Game 1 and didn't make as many turnovers/mistakes. The goaltenders were just secondary. Crawford made the best save of the game. Smith's soft goal was worse than any that Crawford gave up.
I'm sorry, but a perfect laser of a shot (Vermette's) is going to beat any goalie. Not to mention the fact that it was totally preventable and came off a bad turnover.

That's a perfectly reasonable suggestion. You should start a proposal thread on the Rangers board and say we could offer them Emery, Hammer, and next year's 1st round pick. See if you get any interest.

Shh, enough... clearly everything is always the goalie's fault no matter what.

Seriously. I don't really see how anyone could say Crawford was anything but strong in that game. Doesn't mean he won't fall apart tonight, but he was definitely good enough last night. The defense let him down.

Exactly. He played very well and made some amazing saves... I'm a bit surprised his save at the end of the 1st hasn't gotten more love - it was awesome.
Looking for the guys to stop throwing the puck away like youth hockey players tonight. Series should come back to Chicago all knotted up at 1 game apiece.
I was thinking about Game 1 all of Thursday. I was really, really nervous. I'm not in a Hawks zone right now. I've been watching hockey all day, though. This game, I will be loud and obnoxious. Going to have to sit on the floor. I always am moving, throwing my arms about, jumping, and doing a bunch of other odd antics.
I just read about all the scary weather in the midwest...are things okay in Chicago?
Western suburbs look fine so far, my partners in crime back in the City Beautiful probably concur with their current situation, so I assume we're all fine.
The crap that's gonna happen overnight is worrying, though. I'm hearing tornado-like forces. Not that I'm gonna be cowering in fear, though. I've got a friend coming over to watch it on my 42" flat screen in the living room, so I'm good.

Totally agree. Crawford made the save of the game. Whereas the Bickell and Bolland saves Smith made in the 1st were shot right into his glove, or body, Crawford actually went out and dove to get that one after Oduya got burned.
Both of Mike Smith's goals against were probably not his best efforts. The initial Kane shot at the end of regulation should have been soaked up. Yeah he was great in that game, but how many game-saving saves did he have to make? Hawks' shot number is deceptively high because a lot of those were very easy saves from distance.
I can't believe you guys are downplaying Smith stopping 43 of 45 shots. Rough crowd.
Yeah, you are right. It was a very good night. I'm just saying, not all 43 save nights are the same. Phoenix kept the Hawks on the outside for the most part. There were not a ton of really difficult saves, or impressive rebound saves while Hawk players crashed the net, for example.
