Agree to disagree, I guess. I mean, Winchester is never going to score a big goal for you, I'll give you that, but I'm always amazed at how well he does everything else. Guy always comes out of the boards with the puck. He's one of our best "glue" guys, and I thought he had a great game, considering what he's on the team for.
There's more to hockey than scoring goals and throwing hits. Winchester does everything else REALLY well. I'm stoked to have him back for the playoffs. I thought he had a very nice game, actually.
If we are going solely on who didn't show up in Game 1, Smith deserves to be out of the lineup, not Winchester. Winny was fine.
I'd really love to get rid of Daugavins tho. He's been sooo bad for this last half of the season. He operates at -0.41 per 60 minutes of even strength. Which means it's bad news if he's on the ice.
He did NOT do LITERALLY nothing. He sat on the bench. He took a few shifts. He breathed. You could argue that he FIGURATIVELY did nothing, and I'd agree. But LITERALLY, he did something.

I thought Foligno was good last night. Turris wasn't great, but made a nice play on the second goal. I honestly don't envision Condra playing the whole game with those two on the second line. He spends a lot of hard minutes on the penalty kill.
Smith is a player who could have a huge impact on this series, we can't afford to have him take even one game off. He needs to be better.
I like Gilroy over Carkner. Karlsson is getting more attention right now than Paris Hilton did after her sex tape. Gilroy and Gonchar both need to step their game up in order to compensate.

The only thing I see Smith doing with passion these days is complaining to the refs. No fire, no energy, just meh.
Funny thing is though that we're a one line team again, except on defense this time
Let's focus on actually generating some offence tonight. THAT is our biggest concern, not whether Matt Carkner can be effective in the 8 minutes of icetime that Maclean hesitantly gives him.
"The Great Gilroy/Carkner Debate of 2012: The Carkening" is the least of our worries. Gilroy is what we need right now, not Carkner's awful transition game and laughable (and incredibly expose-able) foot work.
While I definitely hope the team comes out with a more physical game, I also hope someone specifically lays out Callahan for trying to hit the empty net from the Ranger's zone with 5 seconds left in the game. I completely understand why he went for it, I mean you would rather score than ice the puck, but if I was a player, that definitely would have rubbed me the wrong way.
I suppose it also makes sense to go after him considering he is their captain + leader, wearing him down would probably be beneficial..
