U.S. Under-18 Team vs. The NHL Dec. 2 at Yost

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not... if not, and you are local to the Ann Arbor area, get out to Yost Ice Arena Thursday night, Dec. 2, 8pm for the Pro-Am Skate for Mott. It's a charity game organized by former Wolverine David Roberts to benefit the "Champions for Children" campaign to build a new children's and women's hospital at U-M.

The game will feature the U.S. NTDP Under-18 Team vs. the NHL. The NHL team is comprised of:

Steve Yzerman
Darian Hatcher
Nicklas Lidstrom
Chris Chelios
Manny Legace
Chris Osgood
Aaron Ward
Chris Tamer
Bill Muckalt
Kris Draper
Sergei Samsonov
Bryan Smolinski
Doug Brown
Kip Miller
Kevin Miller
David Harlock
David Roberts
Brian Rolston
... and who knows who else will show up... Yzerman and Hatcher were just added yesterday.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. There will also be a silent auction where you can bid on the game-worn jerseys and even autographed bottles of wine made by Igor Larionov.

Should be a fun night! Anyone lucky enough to attend, pass along a report.

"I'm not saying we got ourselves in over our heads, but we've heard rumors about our competition," Ward joked. "The onus is on us to come prepared."

Do you know if guys like Kessel, Mueller, Stoa, Skille and Johnson will be playing for the U-18's?

It's the NTDP team so all of them will be there. I doubt it's going to be much of an event for anyone hoping to scout them but it sounds like it will be fun. Most of all for the kids playing against all those great players.

As far as I know, yes, they will be playing. The Aaron Ward quote was in reference to hearing about how good the U18 team is this year, so it would seem to indicate that.

As for Billy Muckalt... hehe...

My guess is it'll be like an NHL All-Star Game. It'll be competitive, but this is all being done for charity, not to kill each other. If Jack Johnson tries laying out Yzerman, he might not live to see the NHL

Add Sergei Federov to the list. Quite a line up they got going.

The game is reportedly sold out, too.

That's the main press release. The rest of the info comes from The Ann Arbor News and Michigan hockey message boards I read from locals who listen to the radio and get the info there.

Looks more like the Red Wings/Bruins vs. the US Under-18 Team.

i'm thinking this will be as competitive\serious as the old MTV "rock 'n' jock" softball games.

Rolston and Samsonov are the only two players that don't have discernable ties to the state of Michigan.

Samsonov played in Detroit for the Vipers as an 18 year old.

Rolston graduated from my high school... Pioneer High School in Ann Arbor. He also played his college hockey up north in Sault Ste. Marie at Lake Superior State University.

The NHL squad is basically broken down to Red Wings, Bruins, Michigan alum, and Michigan State alum.

They both have houses in the Detroit area too. Smolinski is an assistant coach with a private school while the lockout is on.

I tried to get tickets on my way home, but it was sold out around 4pm yesterday. Once Yzerman commited to play i'm not shocked.

I guess Fedorov new woman showed up too.
