Del Zotto vs McDonagh

The Rangers young pair, who would you take short and long term?

It'll be interesting to see what the results will be because when someone posted an article about the top 5 D-men under 25 MDZ was on it and McD wasn't and most people seemed to agree with MDZ being on it and no one said anything about the McD omission. It's McDonagh for the record.

I'd take McDonagh now and for the future, but I think it's semi-close. MDZ is better offensively, but McDonagh shows a lot of potential there too, terrific skater with some pretty nice puck skills. McDonagh is quite a bit better defensively, he's a stud in his own end, but MDZ has improved a lot defensively, he's gone from a liability to a guy who plays a decent 2-way game. I take McDonagh now and for the future, more of an "I want this guy on the ice in all situations" type, he's going to be a very good top pairing dman (he already is a pretty solid top pairing dman), but MDZ is very talented too, he's not CRAZY far behind.

McDonagh, no question. I'm ecstatic with the turnaround by MDZ this year, and think back on track into developing into a solid-defensive, fantastic-offensive defenseman. But McDonagh is absolutely out of control. Phenomenal skater, tremendous shut-down guy at the age of 22...and to Rangers fans, it's pretty clear that there is still a lot of room for improvement.

McDonagh. He's just the type of defenseman that I value more than guys like Del Zotto.

Remember those Habs won the Gomez/McD trade threads? LOL!!!!!!!

I take McD. Phenom skater. Great stick in the d-zone and hockey IQ. Had a few brain-farts the final couple of weeks, but i'll chalk that up to (basically) rookie mental fatigue.

Del Zotto is showing a chippiness to his game, which is a most positive development. I want to say his ceiling is low rent Letang. Del Zotto can be a regular/penciled in 10G 35A player, but i think McD also has that same Offense potential.

He was already a 10 goal 31 assist D-man in 77 games this season. I'd hope that he can improve on those numbers, he has the talent.

McDonagh. Kid's even better than Gomez. In all seriousness though, I love McDonagh he looks like he'll be (or should I say, continue to be) a great player.

I actually think that McDonagh is a little overrated, and Del Zotto's a little underrated.

The answer is still McD though.

McD but they are both solid top 4's so the rangers are darn lucky.

Just solid top 4's?

Mcdonagh is already a solid # 1 d-man on the best team in the east and arguably has been a top 10 D this season. Give credit where it's due, Rangers absolutely ROBBED Habs on that Gomez trade like the biggest theives in the league.

MDZ's been invisible or noticeably bad thus far in the playoffs, while McDonagh has continued his play. Just food for thought.

So a solid top 4 can't be classified as a number 1?.............

How would you guys feel if we threw in Girardi in this discussion?

Would he be #1, squeezed in the middle, or the worst of the 3? I can't decide, but I think #1 or #2. Probably #1.
