I can easily remember Boston doing it last year in the first round. As did Detroit in 2002. Both went on to win the Cup after escaping that tough situation.
There must be other teams.

Carolina in 2006 in the first round against Montreal. Very similar postseason run to Boston's.

If I remember correctly, the Rangers did it against Montreal in 1996.

So, going by that. There's a 25% chance we can do it and a 75% chance we won't.

haha I'd say your math is either a little off or a little bias.

Most of them happened in modern times so that 70 years is pointless to talk about.
How many times has a team been down 2-0 like this the last 20 years and won?

You're right, I should have looked at the years. I'll let the TV analysts pull random numbers and make a statement where there isn't one.

18 times in 75 years. 75/100 * 25% = 18.75
Don't see anything wrong with the math.

Under current format:
Vancouver v. Detroit in 2002
Anaheim v. San Jose in 2009

I`m pretty sure the Canucks have never done it.

I think it's over for the Canucks, but with Pittsburgh you can't count them out.
If they can win the next two or even one I'd say they could take the series and after that, look out. But I'm hoping the flyers can finish it.

The question was losing the first two at home though. They lost the first two in Vancouver in the Final.

The problem isn't necessarily that the calculation is faulty, it's that the wrong thing is being calculated. What's needed is not a ratio of times it's happened against number of years, it's times happened against total number of series played.
Really, the best way to get something resembling relevant data would be to calculate the number of times a team has come back from 2-0 down (having lost both games at home) compared to the total number of series played in the 16 team playoff, 7 game series era, or the 1-8 conference format. The former would provide more data points, while the later would be more representative.

In this round, teams winning the first two games on the road are 8-17 (.320) in game 3 and 16-9 (.640) overall to win the series.
Overall, regardless of the round, teams winning the first two games on the road are 37-37 (.500) in game 3 and 56-18 (.757) overall to win the series.

This is the easiest of the 3 major sports which have 7 game series to do it in, it been done in baseball only 3 times I believe and I want to say maybe never or just once in the NBA.

That Boston series is when Kevin Stevens guaranteed the Penguins would come back and win after falling down 2-0, then had 4g 4a in over the next 3 games, including 2g3a in game 5.
So I'm holding out hope Malkin knows the word 'guarantee' in English.
Edit - nevermind...can't read. That series started in Boston.
