One Thing You Would Change if You Had a Time Machine
There are all things we ourselves or somebody else did and we think, "Why the **** did I do that?" Me included, definitely.
There have been questionable decisions made in every sports franchise, and every person has made one themselves. Now, if you had a time machine and could change one thing that was done in the Blackhawks' history, what would it be?
For me, it would be convincing Frank Pellico not to deceive Dollar Bill into thinking that it would cost millions to move the old Barton pipe organ over to the United Center. Pellico had been an electronic organist his entire life, and he just wasn't used to the delay from finger to key to note. The new organ doesn't nearly have the same charm and grace and building-rocking ability as the old one did.
What many people don't realize is that it's way too late now. The console is still around, it's just in a New Mexico music room playing on random Barton pipes. But the actual old pipes themselves, the generator, they're all gone. They were destroyed in a warehouse fire when a propane tank exploded. The only reason the console didn't perish with the pipes and such is because it was out for repairs. The few remaining pipes are scattered across the country.
I'd take the time machine straight to round 1 game 7 last year. Between the end of the 3rd period and overtime I would sneak into the Hawk dressing room and steal Chris Campoli's skates or just handcuff him to his stall and then swallow the key.
For good measure I would run over to the Nucks room and take an upper decker in the bathroom.
I'd like to go back in time to see about convincing someone in the NHL to adopt a salary cap system that allows you to re-sign your own players at whatever you wanted to. We'd probably be fighting for our third cup in a row if there was a modified cap.
One thing I liked about the old Stadium (even though I never saw it myself) was that the organ was right there. You could see him playing, you can never do that now.
I think if they found a company that makes similar instruments (and they get the console back from New Mexico) then it could be reconstructed when the team moves to their next arena. Just me musing things of the past possibly coming back in the future.
When I think of changing the past, one event can change a lot. Let's say we got Malkin in 2004. With Malkin, do we suck enough eventually to get Toews in 2006 or Kane in 2007?
I would have just taken Backstrom over Toews.
However, on a serious note, I would let Hjalmarsson walk to San Jose and keep Ladd.
