2012 Draft Watch

Trust me when I say, its going to be a fun year for you guys watching Colorado and seeing where their pick will land.

We got to do it twice with the B's and it was great. You can contend yet still have an interest in the top end of the draft. Our "Leaf tank nation" threads during the Seguin year were great. I guess the only downside is you only get to directly effect their pick once or twice (dont know your schedule) instead of six times.

But regardless, enjoy it next season.

I can't even describe how happy I'd be if the Caps could take a high talent top 3 forward to play in the near future.

Can anyone even begin to imagine a second line that looks something like Brouwer-Grigorenko-Kuznetsov?

That's just nasty to have around after Ovechkin and Backstrom.

Or, hell, just to go somewhere else, what about a blueline with Alzner, Carlson, Orlov, and Ebert on it?

Goddammit, I want him so much...

Galchenyuk or Grigorenko wouldn't be bad, either.

Malkin-Crosby would have nothing on Ovi-Kuzy-Yakupov. Man I didn't realize how physical he was for a 5'10 170 pound squirt.

An early overview of 2012 rankings. Dan Sallows' top 50. I'm most familiar with Grigorenko at this point, who really looks to be the best Russian center prospect since Malkin.

I don't expect Colorado to be a lottery team but we'll see how the off-season progresses and how healthy they are. I'm already looking at some bottom teams and hoping they sign some remaining UFAs to plug holes. Even if it's a pick in the 10-18 range the Caps likely will have the assets to be aggressive and move up for a top-end player. If not, the depth should be considered even better eleven months from now and is already considered more promising throughout the top 20 than this past draft.

Even though the Avs are talented, it's worth noting that they are EXTREMELY young. I fully expect them to get off to a slow start or have a very significant lull in their play at some point in the season, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they struggle in the talented and improving West.

I like their future (I really like their future tbh), but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they have another tough year incorporating some of their younger pieces, and acclimating the rest of the team to winning hockey.

I don't like Grigorenko personally, he is a big flight risk. Galchenyuk is a unique guy, plays for the U.S but he's been all over the world. Yakupov would be the one everybody would like, but honestly Colorado won't be that badd.

That is probably the case but you would have to wonder if GMGM won't make a call to who ever has the #1 pick next year and offer quantity of picks. Making the argument to give quantity picks in a deep draft will help them more. It's going to be an interesting year watching two teams in the standing.

I don't think the Avs would have traded their 1st if they thought it was a lottery pick.

Is it a rule that prospect videos have to be set to the worst techno available?

A player you guys should watch, who will go around the middle of the draft is Brendan Gaunce.

This. I don't think the Avs will be nearly as bad as everyone here is thinking...
It was a good trade nonetheless.

Neither would the Leafs to Boston.

I read somewhere that the name is pronounced "Nile" rather than the typical pronunciation of "Nail." Not that the Caps will get him, the Avalanche won't finish last and likely won't win the lottery, just throwing it out there.

Realistically these teams are all guaranteed to make the playoffs in the west

Vancouver
San Jose
Detroit
Chicago
La Kings

Next bunch of teams probably:
Nashville
Anaheim
Dallas
Phoenix
Columbus
Colorado
St Louis
And then
Calgary
Minny
Edmonton

**** anything can happen out West

I must admit im prolly going to follow the Avs a bit more this season to track that draft pick and see how varly develops into a #1 goalie.
