Which Team(s) Will Make Major Moves If Out of The Playoffs Early?

If the Pens can't figure out how to play in their own end i could see them making a move for a solid young defender.

Makes you wonder what kinda value they would place on a stay at home solid hitting defender in Luke schenn, or someone that's on a cheap contract for another year in Carl Gunnerson.

With Any luke though for us Luke schenn Bounces back after a lackluster season and he becomes valuable for us again. Rookie year he was great, Sophmore season no so great, Great in year 3 then not so great this year. So he's due for a good year if the trend continues~

I keep thinking San jose are going to blow things up too with marleau and thorton etc not getting the job done for a cup.. but they're a team that's consistantly good with a couple of solid young players.. at what point do they decide to move in a different direction

Vancouver has their core in place for quite sometime, but if Schnider starts winning the next couple games and plays well and say the canucks lose 4-3 in a close series that became winnable once schinder came into the series that could really make what they do with their goaltending situation this summer interesting.

Rumor has it Chris Stewart is a healthy scratch tonight for the blues.. he's another guy like Kulemin that went cold this year but many feel he's still got tons of talent and would be a great player in the right environement.

Anyways just some food for thought~

Pens need to get rid of Cindy. He's too much of a risk to get a big contract. One more big hit and his career is over. Trade him to other teams who want to gamble on a guy who may play 20 games / season while he still has value. Time after time Malkin has shown that he is the leader of the team.

For the Pens management, they're just hoping the Flyers don't rough him up too much.

Vancouver will definitely make moves if they're out early. The elephant in the room won't go away..and that is what do you do with Schneider. You can't keep him as a back-up forever. Nashville will definitely have some decisions to make if they go out early, to me they're all in with the moves they made at the deadline, you could see a massive overhaul for that franchise.

I think if Nucks are out early, their coach is gone.

I think Pittsburgh has struggled because Jordan Staal has been awful in the shut-down role so far.

If they fall out, and with Sidney back, they may finally move Staal since Vitale is playing better in the shut-down role right now.

Vancouver for sure will make moves if they lose as well.

San Jose's core could get a major shakeup if they don't go far this year.

Vigneault is likely fired if Vancouver bows out early as it seems right now.

May be a stretch, but I wonder if Chicago contemplates a Kane/Miller deal like was rumoured if they too bow out early for a second consecutive year.

That rumor was just speculation by Dreger

Hawks media people/insiders say there was and is no intent to trade Kane (He is the face of franchise along with Toews) and Miller isn't worth anything close to Kane

If Hawks bow out in 1st round I think Hjalmarsson is on way out

He cost us Niemi to keep him after SJ offersheeted him but last 2 years he has regressed and he cost Hawks game 1 (He was brutal out there)

Vancouver and their idiot fans will drive Luongo out of town, even though Bobby Lu kept them in both of the first two games.

That's OK, we'll take him.

Vacouver for sure. We already saw them deal their top prospect for toughness to address an area that was weak last playoffs. Now with Schneider being an RFA, one of Bobby Lu or himself will be shown the door this offseason.

Luongo is 34 next year and he's signed until 2022

Not sure if I'd want to touch that

I'd agree with Stewart though. Wouldn't be surprised if STL trades him. Seems like a player Burke would be interested in as well.

ahh man I really wish we had a good relationship with Vancouver as there are definitely parts that we could use. Too bad that organization hate our guts. The chances of us linking up with trade with the Canucks is really low.

Could see San Jose doing a bit of cleanup.

They've shaken their team up quite a bit over the years and still hasn't gotten them over the hump. Perhaps they look to move big salaries like Joe Thornton or Patrick Marleau in an effort to restock the system? Both will be 35(ish) when the contracts are up, so it seems like now would be an ideal time to move them if any. The UFA forwards are very weak, and both of those players would command a nice return.

Thats just plain silly. Why would you want that ugly contract? No wonder we traded Tuuka Rask, 1st, 2nd, 4th for goalies that never worked out. Sure Luongo will most likely be better then what we have and had, but for how long? 3-4 yrs? We're better off targeting Bernier from LA, at least hes young and may be entering goalie prime

Hey guys, Pens fan here. Temporarily off meds and posting. Just wanted to say, if the Pens go out, then I could see some big changes, the type of changes that go beyond deporting Paul Martin. It may be firing the coach. It may mean moving core players. It may mean both. BUT, I suspect Ray Shero will listen to just about any offers, including offers for Staal and Orpik. It would take a Richards/Carter style deal to maybe get Staal. It would take a Gologoski or Whitney type return to maybe get Orpik. I also suspect that, in terms of guy who really might interest other teams (beyond the baby sized deals) are Kunitz and Michalek. Really, if this thing ends like it looks, I see Shero saying 'Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang, Fleury, and prospects Morrow and Despres stay, and anything else is fair game' (although, again, you're talking big payment for Staal or a prospect like Harrington).

Because one he won't cost as much as Bernier, who is an unproven commodity and not a solution to our goaltending issue. Luongo on the other hand will be turning 34 and has about 4-5 more years in him.

Did you watch Burke at the end of the year? They said they were looking for a veteran who will take the reins for 3-4 seasons. Luongo fits that bill perfectly.

Watch the Canucks series, he's not the reason they're losing right now. Their entire season they have been riding their goaltending. The contract may be bad, but it can be buried. He has a NTC not a NMC.

I'd be interested in Jordan, Im guessing Burke would be to, he'd be a nice compliment with Lupol and Kessel on his wings. I'd hate to see Bozak go, but Kadri + Bozak + 2nd would hopefully be enough to get him, its less then Richards and Carter but not by to much.

I think if SJ bows out in the first round we will see a major shake up... again. Same goes with Vancouver it seems that Lou will be on his way out especially with the confidence they have in Schiender, makes sense top me; you free up a ton of cap space and a good return when trading Lou.

For the east I really do not see anything changing, the Pens may try and move Staal to acquire some top4 dman but other than that they are in a good place. I am not entirely sold that they will trade Staal but he would definitely be in play.

Luongo is a top 5-7 goalie in the league, with a cap hit of 5.3 mil. That's fantastic.

He probably has 4 prime years left in him, after which time he can back-up for a year and then either retire or be sent down, and thus be off the cap.

If we can get him at a reasonable cost...i.e. Franzen for instance, or Ashton...or something like Macarthur and Reimer...you go for it.

I would love to have a goalie like luongo on my favourite team. The guy is a franchise goalie without a doubt! He takes to much flak from people.

If vancouver doesn't go far this year, i think it will be best for both lu and the nucks to part ways. If we can get a guy like Bobby Lu i say do it.
