Cole has paid his dues. Its just one of those things, I don't think CBC will pressure him to retire but it will be his call. I do love listening to Cole though, something about his voice and he can really make a game exciting.
It doesn't apply to me, because I like Dean Brown, Rob Kerr, Chris Cuthbert and to an extent - Mark Lee and Jim Hughson (don't jump all over me for liking Hughson and Lee... I said to an extent). However, a lot of people here and all over the hockey world have a problem with the guys I listed, besides Cuthbert.
Hughson and Jack Edwards from Boston are actually really good play-by-play guys provided they aren't voicing Canucks or Bruins games.
Savor the fruit of life, my young friends. It has a sweet taste when it is fresh from the vine. But don't live too long. The taste turns bitter... after a time.
But seriously, lay the **** off of Bob Cole. Dude is a legend, and will be remembered LONG after all of the fools mocking him.
Bob is still better than the Canuck's nut sucker Jim Hughson, who needs to be fired, hes pathetic. He has no clue on what is going on, he is anti-fighting, and very anti-climatic. He is just horrible.
I am usually a pretty big Cole supporter, but he's getting really bad lately. He's been confusing Karlsson and Gonchar all season (shouldn't be that hard considering one is right handed and the other left handed). But calling Gonchar Karlsson for the entire PP when Karlsson was in the box was just beyond stupid, even more so than Hughson's screw up yesterday.
You guys in America are really blessed with good commentators. Watch one game commented by a Swiss commentator or a Austrian commentator and you would know what bad commentators are like und never ever complain about your bad ones.
Philadelphia fans were starting to go through this a few years ago with Harry Kalas. He was getting older, wasn't quite as quick with his calls and people were starting to chirp about retirement.
Then he passed away. And you know what? Ask any Philadelphia sports fan today and they'll tell you they'd give anything to hear Harry read a dictionary. ****, I miss that man.
My point is that you don't really know what you have until it's gone. Bob Cole's voice = hockey. I guarantee the season after he leaves you'll all be wishing you could hear him forget things again.
“While I respect the great broadcasting career that Mr. Cole has enjoyed, it doesn’t change the fact that for nearly the entire broadcast … Erik Karlsson was confused for Sergei Gonchar.”
Isn't there any morbid part of you that finds humor in this?
It's not radio. Enjoy the absurdity. It's a gift-wrapped drinking game.
That being said, shouldn't a CBC producer be whispering in Cole's ear the first time that Cole confuses Karlsson with Gonchar? It doesn't appear that Bob gets much support in the booth.
It's not really the Ottawa Citizen's opinion here. Look, people on here know that the opinion of people on these boards do NOT reflect the opinion of the majority of Canadian hockey fans.
Almost all of the people I talk hockey with want Bob Cole out.
