everyone but stamkos and hedman on Tampa.. good deal, no?
But our secret play will use the time machine to get yzerman, so we'll have him on the ice and working for us off the ice too hehe... or maybe get old yzerman to play with young gretzky

I would like to find a way to keep Stamkos... so everyone except for Stamkos. He'd be putting up 80 goals a season...

Everyone on the Oilers roster except Gagner. They'd score 16 points a game

Woooooow, I'll take that bet any day. Do you have any idea how many players 35+ have reached 70 points, even in today's game? A 35 year old Crosby will easily get 70 points, do you think that 35+ makes a player ancient? You act like it's 45.

Okay, maybe five 1sts, three 2nds and three 3rds?

I wouldn't want to trade too many players.

So Franzen, Filppula, Bertuzzi, White and all those picks.
You're not getting Gretzky for bunch of craps.

Well the original trade had $15 million cash in 1988 valuation, along with 2 roster players and 3 first round picks. For a 20 year old Gretzky though...it would take something spectacular to make a trade.

Let's put it this way, before Crosby's injury woes every poster would say it would take MAJOR overpayment for Pittsburgh to trade Crosby. Change the name from Crosby to Gretzky at the same age and times that valuation by 30 times at the very least.

In playoff pools back in those days people couldn't select Gretzky straight up, it was either a choice of his goals for one selection or assits for the other selection. Yes that is right, drafts split Gretzky from one player into two players. It's like splitting the atom almost.

Phil Kessel, Nazem Kadri, Luke Schenn, 5th Overall Pick, Jake Gardiner

for

Wayne Gretzky

Would that get it done?

Side deal

Dion Phaneuf for Mark Messier

Gretzky made bad players good if you had him people would want to come to your organization.

The Anton for Gretzky. Seems like a fair trade.

Yeah, better hold on to Ryan freakin' McDonagh. Good lord. Oh, and Crosby wouldn't score half as much in high scoring 80's when there was still some call for players to be accountable for their actions on the ice.

I'd basically offer the choice of any 5 assets in the organization. Maybe 6.

Him at 20 would die on this first shift in this league. Game is faster. Hits are harder. He would be head shot to death

Thanks for that insightful post. That explains why RNH, Kane, and Giroux are career AHLers.

Keep in mind that there's still the matter of who would play with Gretzky, as well as him avoiding injury...developing even the greatest of players isn't a guarantee.

And you don`t think with modern training that he would not be stronger and faster also?

This

Any team can rebuild through free agency and the draft with the world's best player.

Mario Lemieux scored 76 points in 43 games at age 35. MSL last year scored 99 points when he was 35. Crosby will more likely still be at over 100 points than below 70 at that age. I would gladly take your money.

And maybe the league change to a more 7-8 Goals by games like before, and 70 points will not be that much, this is a dangerous bet for sure.

Whatever it took.

He'd still be in a league of his own.
