Zero reason for the Canes to do a trade like this when they're not in a complete rebuild. Also, Staal has an NTC, he's given no indication that he'd want to waive it, yet alone waive it to go to a team that's no closer to being a contender then the Canes are.
What is it with the Schenn, Colborne, and Kadri packages lately from my fellow Leafs fans? Why not remove Schenn and put Gardiner instead and possibly add the 2013 pick to this proposal because that is something that Carolina MAY listen to before even considering a trade of this magnitude.

I'm going to agree with this. In a vacuum, the original deal may be fair, but most NHL teams aren't going to deal their star player for a bunch of secondary assets, especially not a team like Carolina that isn't exactly filled with star players.
... in what possible way? The difference between the 5th and 8th doesn't even sniff the difference between Skinner/Faulk and Gardiner/Kadri or Colborne
Eric Staal won't be moved anytime soon, if ever. If we ever reach a point where he requests a trade, or even hints that he is unhappy in Carolina, we can talk about this. Jim Rutherford recently stated that any rumors of Staal or Ward being on the block earlier this season were simply media fabrications.

And the poster who said Ward needs to be added to the original proposal for it to be fair has got to be 12 years old.
hmm.. How is a top 5 pick garbage? When you can choose a guy like, Grig,Galy,Murray,Forsberg?? and than 2 good prospects and a 22 year old shutdown guy who is struggling right now..... Please let me know how those guys are garbage..

Not a Toronto trade thread without a cliche Toronto trash to other team post. Really stretching the trolling when you're talking about a young NHL roster player, 2 great young prospects and the fifth overall pick in this year's draft. Pathetic, really.
On topic no way Carolina considers the deal. This one or any other. They aren't tearing things down and Staal is the heart of that team. Even if they were doing a full rebuild Staal is young enough to stick it out. Only conceivable way he is traded is if he asks for a trade.
