Depends on your definition of garbage. The only player worth anything is Schenn, and Carolina's already got a crowded blueline. That's not even trying to fit in Colborne. Carolina already has their own "Kadri" in Boychuk as well. By which I mean former 1st round pick that seems to succeed in the AHL but can't transfer that game to the NHL so we better trade him before the other GMs wise up. Any player available at 5th overall is on par with any player Carolina could grab at 8th overall.
None of that is anywhere near close enough to get Staal. So yes, on their own, they're valuable pieces. By comparison, however, it's garbage.
