May 7, 2000 -- In Game 5 of the Conference Semis at Philly, led by the phenomenal achievements of Andy Delmore and Mark Recchi, the Flyers recorded an important 6-3 victory. Delmore (3-0-3) had a record-setting outing as he became the first Flyers' d-man to score a hat trick in any PO game, became the first NHL rookie d-man to have a hat trick in a PO game, tied the NHL record for most goals in a PO game by any d-man and became the first NHL rookie d-man to have two multiple-goal games in a PO year (he had two goals in Game Three). Recchi (1-4-5) tied team PO records with five points (done previously by Reggie Leach and Bob Dailey) and four assists (accomplished five prior times). Daymond Langkow scored 23 seconds into the game and the Flyers led 2-0 at the 3:27 after Delmore's first goal. The Flyers nearly duplicated that outburst in the second period when Dan McGillis scored 16 seconds in then Recchi made it 4-0 at the 3:47 mark. Brian Boucher made 29 saves. Matthew Barnaby was ejected after bumping referee Mark Faucette in the second period following Delmore's goal which made it 5-1. Less than a minute later, Luke Richardson was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for shooting the puck off the chest of Bob Boughner who was penalized for roughing Keith Jones. Penguins' head coach Herb Brooks said of Richardson "I wonder if he is a direct descendant of the coward who murdered Jesse James." Jaromir Jagr suffered a leg injury and played just 5:04. The Flyers' PP was 2-for-2. Ron Tugnutt (21 saves, 26 shots) was replaced by Petr Skudra (10 saves, 11 shots).
FLYERS-PENGUINS' 2011-12 SERIES:
2011 -- December 8 -- The Flyers ended the night on top of the Eastern Conference after a 3-2 home win. Danny Briere, who was struggling with the flu, scored in the first period on a goal deflected off two Penguins. Later in the opening period, the Penguins failed to score during a 5-on-3 for 1:10 while two Flyers' defenders played without sticks for part of the play. Wayne Simmonds (1-1-2) and Scott Hartnell added second period goals which gave Philly a 3-0 lead. James Neal and Evgeni Malkin (1-1-2) scored for the Penguins. Andrei Meszaros had a game-high 7 hits and was a +2. Ilya Bryzgalov made 25 saves. The Flyers had a 29-27 shots despite Pittsburgh's 14-7 advantage in the third period. Harry Zolniercyk and Tyler Kennedy fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqLFGYOYl4o ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0P0mJD8oNA
2011 -- December 29 -- Jaromir Jagr and Max Talbot, two ex-Penguins, scored in the Flyers' 4-2 win at Pittsburgh. Jagr scored the go-ahead goal and Talbot had an ENG. Kimmo Timonen tied the game with his first goal of the season and Matt Read snapped a 9-game drought to make it 3-1. Sergei Bobrovsky, who improved to 4-0 at the Consol Energy Center, made 24 saves and his only allowed goal came 44 seconds into the game. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mADsQXuRywA .
2012 -- February 18 -- Matt Cooke (2-1-3) scored twice and Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in the Penguins' 6-4 win at Philly. Cooke and Jordan Staal (1-1-2) scored SHGs 1:43 apart to give Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead. Cooke's goal came during a 2-man advantage which led to Sergei Bobrovsky (14 saves, 17 shots) replacing Ilya Bryzgalov (10 saves, 13 shots) with 3:03 left in the second period. Less than two minutes later, Eric Wellwood scored his first NHL goal to make it 3-3. Dustin Jeffrey scored the go-ahead goal in the opening minute of the third period, the first of three goals by the Penguins in the opening 9:02 which made it 6-3. Jaromir Jagr (2-0-2) scored twice in 18 seconds to give Philly a 2-1 lead which held through the first period. Nick Grossman played in his first game with the Flyers. 2012 -- March 18 -- Scott Hartnell scored the latest OT goal in team history (0.9 seconds left) in the Flyers' 3-2 home victory which snapped the Penguins' 11-game win streak. Hartnell tied the score 2-2 4:47 into the third period. Kimmo Timonen (1-1-2), who celebrated his 37th birthday, got Philly on the board 31 seconds into the third period. Ilya Bryzgalov made 38 saves. The Penguins led 2-0 through two periods and held a 27-10 shots advantage (40-27 in the game). Craig Adams (1-1-2) and Kris Letang (0-2-2) factored into both goals. Hartnell and Chris Kunitz had a confrontation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3B7Qt_bu9E). Zac Rinaldo got five stitches to the mouth from an errant Hartnell stick ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ojd3uftjnR8 ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BRibW2XYRNw
2012 -- April 1 -- Jakub Voracek (2-1-3) scored twice in the third period and Sergei Bobrovsky made 43 saves in the Flyers' 6-4 win at Pittsburgh. The Flyers improved to 5-0-0 all-time at the Consol Energy Center. Claude Giroux (1-2-3) also had three points. Brayden Coburn was a +4. The Penguins held a 47-26 shots advantage including 30-14 through two periods when the scored was tied 2-2. Wayne Simmonds' PPG 2:35 into the third period made it 3-2 and was part of five straight goals by the Flyers after trailing 2-0 in the opening 4:58. Steve Sullivan (2-0-2) had two Pittsburgh goals. Nicklas Grossmann missed the rest of the regular season after a knee-on-knee hit by Joe Vitale in the first period. Vitale later injured Danny Briere, who also missed the balance of the regular season, on a check with 1:03 to play moments after the Flyers made it 6-3. That play created a chaotic scene which included a shouting match between coaches, the ejections of Peter Laviolette (fined $10,000) and Tony Granato (Penguins' assistant fined $2,500), led to 27 PIMs for the Flyers and 25 PIMs to the Penguins, four unsportsmanlike minors to each side, and fighting majors to Simmonds and Derek Engelland ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPgr2DwWzIk). After the game, Laviolette said "Those guys hadn't been out there in 12 minutes. It's a gutless move by their coach. It's gutless." Penguins' head coach Dan Bylsma said "It's clearly a cheap shot. It's clearly a guy targeting a player that was well after the whistle," regarding Brayden Schenn's cross-check of Sidney Crosby following the Penguins' third goal ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6yYQ-Lwy7g ). 2012 -- April 7 -- The Penguins won the regular season finale 4-2 at Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby's (1-1-2) PPG with 2:06 left in the second period was the go-ahead goal and Evgeni Malkin's 50th (1-1-2) with 12 seconds remaining in the same period gave Pittsburgh a 4-2 lead. Chris Kunitz (1-1-2) also scored and had two points. Marc Andre-Fleury (14 saves, 15 shots) was replaced by Brent Johnson (5 saves, 6 shots) in an otherwise meaningless game with playoff seedings already finalized. Brayden Schenn (1-1-2) and Jaromir Jagr (1-1-2) scored for the Flyers and Sergei Bobrovsky made 19 saves. Harry Zolniercyk and Joe Vitale fought 2:22 into the game ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh45mMXUwqc ). Zac Rinaldo was tossed in the first period http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWMB2RMGCiY). THE MOST RECENT GAME:
2012 -- April 13 -- In Game Two of the ECQF, Claude Giroux (3-3-6, +4, 10 shots on goal) and Sean Couturier (3-1-4, +4) both had hat tricks in a wildly entertaining record-setting 8-5 Flyers' win at Pittsburgh. Giroux set a team-record for most points in a PO game with 6 (Reggie Leach, Bob Dailey and Mark Recchi had 5). Couturier added to his terrific defensive play as he became the second Flyers' rookie to have four points in a PO game (Peter Zezel did it in 1985 against the NYR). It was the first time that the Flyers had two players score hat tricks in the same PO game (Buffalo performed the rare feat against the Flyers in 2006). Max Talbot (1-1-2, a career-high +5), Braydon Coburn (0-1-1, +4), Nick Grossmann (5 blocks) and Jakub Voracek (0-2-2) also played key roles. Once again, the Flyers fell behind 2-0 only to rally for a victory for the fourth time this season against the Penguins. Sidney Crosby made it 1-0 just 15 seconds into the game, the fastest PO goal scored against the Flyers in team history. It was 2-0 at the 9:27 mark. The Penguins made it 3-1 with 17.2 seconds left in the opening period. The Flyers tied the game 3-3 on consecutive goals by Giroux ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rnBRt6vou4 ) but Kunitz regained the lead for Pittsburgh six seconds later (one second off the NHL record for consecutive goals set in 1979 between Buffalo and Pittsburgh). Couturier tied the game 4-4 with 2.8 seconds left in the middle period. Tyler Kennedy scored 1:04 into the third period but Couturier tied it 5-5 17 seconds later. Jaromir Jagr netted the GWG 9:13 into the third period. Couturier added an insurance goal with 1:49 remaining. Giroux completed his hat trick with under seven seconds to play. Among Ilya Bryzgalov's 23 stops came key saves in the first period against Chris Kunitz, who skated in alone, and Kris Letang, a fantastic glove save with 7:37 left ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icy0bIDP6fw ). Bryzgalov also stopped Steve Sullivan in the second period and James Neal with about two minutes to play. Kunitz (2-0-2) scored twice and was named the game's third star despite a -5. Evgeni Malkin and Neal each had two assists but both were -4. Brooks Orpik had eight of Pittsburgh's 40 hits (Flyers had 34). The Flyers trailed by two or more goals for the 35th time this season and responded with a win for the ninth time. Spanning the last 57 games, the Flyers led at the 10:00 mark just four times. The captivating victory marked the second time in franchise history that the Flyers began a series with two road wins (also at Buffalo 1997). The 8-5 win was the Flyers' third such score in PO history. It was the sixth time the Flyers scored 8+ goals in a PO game and was surpassed only by 9 goals vs. Calgary in 1981 home win. There was some talk today by a one 'neutral' pundit that the Flyers are a road team, so he expects the Pens to win Game 3 (I can't remember who said it).
Prove him wrong.

Well they were 9th in the East at home and 1st in the East on the road...so the pundit has a point. Additionally, the Flyers notoriously suck in afternoon games. That said, few people expected the Flyers to be leading the series 2-0, so nothing is guaranteed.

Their record was better on the road than at home, but they were still 9 games over 0.500 at home (they lost the same amount of games in regulation at home as on the road; 3 ties more at home).
By contrast, the Pens were 19 games over 0.500 at home, but only 7 games over 0.500 on the road.
Selective statistic reporting, really, because the Pens aren't world beaters outside of Consol.
I saw a lot of tweets today from Flyers fans attending the game who plan to throw hats on the ice for G and Couts during warm ups to celebrate the road hat tricks,
May be a great way to pump them up from the beginning!

Might just be me but that's a poor idea.

Just don't think warm-ups are the best place to do it. Maybe as they're coming out for the start of the game prior to the National Anthem.
Not sure when they r doing it, again just sharing. If they did it at the end of warm ups it makes perfect sense, they all go in and the zamboni comes out
