I would have been fine if Hagelin got 3, Carkner got 5 and Phillips got 1. That is about what should have happened. Instead, Shanny spins the wheel of justice . . .
Or how about hagelin is just out as long as alfie is. How do you like that one.
Yes, Brian Boyle was being a complete tough guy when he administered that savage beatdown to Erik Karlsson. Everyone knows Boyle is a feared puncher who attacked poor Erik out of nowhere.
When Marchand did the exact same thing to Sedin in the finals last year there were two reactions:
Canucks fan: what a gutless puke MArchand is
Everybody else: Marchand is awesome
Boyle pretty much did the same thing Marchand did to Karlsson and the Senators decided they would not allow this to be a sign of weakness.
I think everybody agrees what Carkner did is not something we want in the NHL, but on the other hand it's perfectly understandable for Senators fans to be happy and supportive of a player that stood up for a team mate. The Senators have been notoriously soft in the playoffs so that also comes into the picture: MacLean, as anew coach, had to make sure that he would show his team he won't tolerate this.
And yes what Carkner did warrants suspension, I don't think any reasonable person would argue otherwise.
Rangers fans feel that what Carkner did was unacceptable because what Boyle did did not amount to much. Rangers fans should consider the punching bag that Sedin was before saying that Boyle did nothing worth a retialiation. Was the retalitation appropriate? I don't think so, and I'm a huge Sens fan but that's why he got suspended.
I'm convinced Sens fans think Hagelin is some sort of 3rd liner or something. How would you feel if your 1st line LW with no history get suspended for 3 important games? I'm not denying its a bad hit..but this is just too much.
No doubt it would suck. Almost as bad as the Sens losing Phillips. However he commited a foul and has consequences. I'm sure no one expected to be so severe, but that's to risk you take with illegal checks. And I dont think Hagelin intentionally elbowed him, he probably isnt the most experienced hitter either but none of that excuses him from discipline.

A ranger fan told me that he was the equivalent of Nick foligno, if that is the case a 3 game suspension hurts a little, but isn't a fatal blow.

I'm convinced that some Rangers fan's think that Carkner tried to murder Boyle, right there on the ice!
There is an absolute ton of hyperbole going through this thread, on both sides. It's not even a discussion, it's just two sides slinging their biases at each other and wondering why the other side just won't agree with how awful their side is!

It was a bad hit, can't be denied. But 3 games is grossly excessive given his history and the gravity of the playoffs. Shea Weber got off with a $2,500 fine. There's literally no way to justify 3 games. 1 game? Yeah, that could be justified. A fine? Justifiable. 3 games in the playoffs for the team's top winger with no history of violence or misconduct? No.

The Hagelin elbow could cause more serious damage than the Weber turn buckle incident. Zetterberg's face was only about 2 inch's off the glass, and while Weber did crack his helmet Zett's was ok. It's clear that's how Shanny operates, whether the player was injured or not.
Torts will put Scott in for Game 3 to attack Karlsson and land 5 haymakers on him. We can afford to lose Scott for 1 game.
I'd rather we see Kreider than Scott. Don't goon up anymore, just play solid hockey. The Rangers are a better and more complete team than the Sens. If they stick to their game plan then they should win the series. Kudos to the Sens for throwing everything off last night. If the Rangers can't get their heads right tomorrow then things will be ugly for them.
