Shanny on the hot seat on WFAN this morning. Kudos for going on and kudos to Boomer and Carton for calling him out. In fact Carton for once did an excellent thing for hockey. He called out Shanny, Bettman, The NHL, Alfie, Carkner...

I guess
Premeditated Attack ala Todd Bertuzzi < Wreckless hit to the head

Good to know that the NHL prefers its players to get assaulted.

That is old at this point and has already been shot down by the NHL. Shanny clearly ****ed up when he said it and they're backtracking. Just shows how much of a joke it is.

But it makes the point, a valid one. How does Shanny feel tonight when he sees Alfie playing in the game?

I would think he would feel like he's been manipulated and made a fool.

BTW, what Carkner did was a criminal act. He assaulted Brian Boyle.

The NHL allows its players to fight in a situation where there is a challenge and acceptance and both players duke it out. This wasn't that situation at all. This was a situation of a player attacking a defenseless person and assaulting him. Plain and simple.

On the radio this morning Shanny said he might revisit the suspension if Alfredsson played tonight

What really sucks is this was looking like a good series, pretty even play going on. Unlike the Pens Flyers ****show, these two teams were really bringing some tight hockey. A ruling like this could effect the series. A shame if it happens.

I think the Rangers rise above and prevail... I still believe.

That would be a clear admittance of failure, something the NHL isn't good at.

What I want to see is what happens with the Pens and Flyers and who does/doesn't get suspensions. It will undoubtedly cause the largest of poop storms known to man.

You should listen to the interview, he addressed that specifically by saying that they are not manipulating the process. They are unsure if he will play, and it looks like it will be that way up until game time.

The more valid point is that this is exactly why you can't base suspensions entirely on injury.

Boyle + No Injury = 1 Game suspension for Carkner (repeat offender)

Alfredsson + No Injury = 3 Game suspension for Hagelin (first time offender)

Carkner's actions were also a lot worse that Hagelins. Nothing we can do about it and if the rangers go after anyone tonight no doubt they'll get it worse

I would think the fact that the NHL would be willing to reconsider what might have been a rash assessment would suggest that it is less of a joke than more, but that's simply my reaction.

What's the possible downside to doing so? Just curious.

Everytime I read some idiotic sens fan defending carkner it reminds me that it is this kind of stupid **** that led to the Bertuzzi on Moore incident.

So essentially what's going to happen is Alfie will sit out tonight no matter what in order to "justify" the 3-game suspension and just play Wed night since there's no doubt Ottawa caught wind of what Shanahan said and want to play the "woe is me" card.

Some unofficial Ranger suit told Boomer and Carton this morning they wont appeal because they believe it ultimately pisses them off, is unlikely to be effective in changing the ruling, and could come back to haunt them down the line.

Just not worth it.

I mean... if Alfie is healthy enough to play (which is absurd considering he personally said he had a concussion), he'll play, irregardless of the standing of the suspension, he is far more vital to the Senators than Hagelin is to us.

I could see that scenario happening. I could also just see him playing.

And ya know what **** it.... Rangers need to rise above. Go win the 3 more games.

Alfie may be 39, but he was the Sens' 3rd leading scorer amongst forwards, 4th overall on the team. If he can play he WILL play.
