Spending time on here with your own fanbase on the team boards, do you often find that it's like being part of a giant dysfunctional family where the same divisive issues and arguments keep coming up over and over again? I certainly do. What do you other fanbases bicker about to pass the time?
Fanbases are all pretty much the same. Passionate people say great things, and they say stupid things. If everything was polite there'd be a problem.
As long as the fans are excited, that's what it's all about. Why humility and pride are respectively admired and abhorred to the degree they are in regards to sports is beyond me. It's all about pride.
Not particularly. I don't really like fan bases in general though since they are all just large collections of complete idiots.
I think it's funny though how unrepresentative fan bases on this board are of their actual fan bases though, and how much more like each other they are. I honestly don't think there's a big difference between them on here.
most of the friction and "differences" that occur on these boards are driven by on ice events and people defending their own teams and not actual differences like irl fan bases.
They can be absolutely embarrassing at times, but nothing comes close to Habs passion. And even the casuals mix knowing their hockey with knowing how to have a good time.
I enjoy our fanbase. The majority are not fair weather fans. We have become accustomed to losing though. 40+ years of Sabres and Bills losing at the last minute has made us numb to bad times. We cheer our team no matter what happens. I do wish the Arena was not half full of rich businessman/women who play on there iPhone while at the game. The atmosphere has been pretty sad all year. I start a chant and everyone looks at you weird...It was not like that a few years ago. The fans on HF of the Sabres seem like really nice people as well, a side from those who offer ridiculous trades every now and then.

I feel the same for Leafs fans. When things are going well (1st 3/4 of the season), the board and fans are great. When they're not (last 1/4) it's like hell, and can be embarrassing.
All in all I really enjoy being a part of it, as crazy as it sounds.
Yup. I can honestly say Devils fans are some of the most knowledgeable and passionate fans in this league, although unfortunately there aren't as many as some of the bigger market teams.
I like the fact we don't have too many bandwagoners or casual fans. Most Devils fans I know are serious hockey fans.
As a Leafs fan, I generally do not agree with 89% of my fellow fan's opinions and ideas of the team. I'm sure they are all wonderful people though, I just don't think they understand how things really are in terms of the hockey team.
My only real interactions with fellow fan members of the Hurricanes is on here. I can only make it to games once or twice every few years, so I can't really comment on the fan base in person. But as much as I disagree with a lot of my fellow Canes posters on HFboards, I like most of them.
I've never met another Blues fan in person but the Blues fans on this site seem very level headed. They're not too arrogant and if a Blues player does something dirty they seem to admit it ( as far as I've seen anyway) Maybe it's a bit of bias, but I'm certainly glad to be part of that group than any Canadian teams fan base. (No offense)
Like any fanbase, Oilers fans are united when things are going well (like winning the draft lottery and getting the Yakupov gift) but argue a lot when things are not going well like the majority of the last 3 seasons and argue over the same things over and over again. Tambellini, Renney, Horcoff, Gagner etc. etc. but when it all boils down to it, we root for the same team and have each other's backs at least as much as one can on a message board.
For HF at least half the Canucks fans are great, the other half basically resembles a bunch of emo/goth kids. Pretty much in any Canadian city radio call in shows are way more active when things are going wrong giving people things to complain about, since that seems to motive certain people who get really loud, but unlike the other cities Canuck fans don't have any sort of positive history to fall back on. Anytime we lose 2 games in a row, regular season and especially playoffs, I tend to just avoid the Canucks board.
In pittsburgh finding a person who you can have an intellegent hockey conversation with is near impossible. Yea everyone supports the pens but the ammount of dumbass opinions I hear about the team from people who probably couldnt name 10 non penguin nhl players drives me nuts. It also pisses me off when I see people in steeler jerseys at the games. Yea I know its western PA football is king but for the love of god can I go anywhere in the city without someone talking ****ing football? It really has made me resent the steelers to the point I almost activly root against them. Its probably why I come on here. Also The consol is also quiet as ****
It's tolerable when we're winning. You can get past the flock of mouth-breathers when you realize that's the price of having such a huge fanbase. A lot of people put thought into what they're saying and discourse is, generally, amicable.
It's the worst place in the world when we're losing. Bordering on intolerable. Bunch of Helen Lovejoys (knee-jerk reactionists), condescending "I told you so"-ers, and everyone is an expert on how to fix the team and who to fire/trade/crucify.
I really appreciate the effort and level of analysis put into posts by everyone on the Pens board. I also have a suspicion that some people on this board are extremely well educated and doing very well for themselves... Just a hunch.
