I haven't heard anything on Hanzal but Dreger tweeted that Smith would be playing tonight. That said as far as know word out of Phoenix hasn't changed and they're still both game-time decisions.

I don't know why I bother with the main boards. I really don't care what people think of Smith or the Coyotes. The Main Boards: where common sense goes to die

Well I think all Coyote fans are in agreement, Mike Smith=the real King of Glendale! The chanting after the cheap shot in the stadium was like rallying a beat-up boxer in round 9 of a prize fight. Mike Smith=the real Rocky!
Three games is bang on. Shaws's blatant attack could very well have been career ending or caused serious head trauma.
Thank God Smith is a warrier and is APPARENTLY OK at this point. Remember Crosby payed a few games aafter his initial hit to the head before the second one put him out for almost a full year.
Let's hope Smith plays up to his stellar form tonight because I am not convinced he is 100%.

In this instance my friend.... I'll agree.. you know the game.
Hawks fan here. Before I start, I wanted to let you know I come in peace and mean no harm against your fan-base or anybody that roots for the Coyotes.
Let me just say that three games is an absolute joke. Shaw did not deliberately make contact with Smith's head, he was trying to grab the puck from one of the best, if not the best himself, puck handling goaltenders of all time. Shaw over-skated the turn and tried to get out of the way, but it was too late.
In the video, you can see Shaw's hips swaying the opposite direction of Smith. Because physics exist, his head is not going to move simultaneously with his hips. And one thing that doesn't make sense here: a 5'10" rookie somehow hitting a 6'+ goaltender in the chin with his shoulder.
With Shaw out, now we'll see Frolik, his numbers aren't great but he always makes me nervous when he is on the ice.
He scored 20 goals his rookie and sophomore seasons, not sure what happened since then but a #10 overall pick suggests he has talent. I hope he doesn't show up with something to prove. Oh and by the way he's Czech, just pointing that out because of your chosen avatar.

Enjoy the game,
BBH.
Please inform how this doesn't make sense... I mean, Smith is playing the puck with a goalie stick that is not primarily meant to be used while standing up, forcing Smith to hunch over.

Ya, I noticed that last year or before when they got him. Verby was the first NHLer I ever meet when he was here his 1st time around. Been cheering hard for the Czech Rep. (our) guys ever since.

Reason: typo
Who are Chicago fans mad at? Shanahan or Smith? I'm actually confused. This has nothing to do with the Phoenix Coyotes. We had nothing to do with the decision. Nobody here thought Shaw was going to get much more than either a $2500 fine or 1 game. I think if you want to blame someone blame the Flyers/Penguins who are forcing the NHL to take a harder stance now on supplementary discipline.
TSN reporting that if Smith was a no go then they would have suspended Shaw for more games.

Fans are mad at BOTH.
Smith : He made it out to be way worse than it really was. The flailing of the arms, the throwing off of his blocker and glove, etc. Totally played it off until Shaw was kicked from the game then back up to play the game was Smith.
Shanahan : No consistency, and the fact that Smith is just fine, he shouldn't have been suspended since no priors, and Shaw was kicked from the game.
We of course know they wouldn't be saying this if it was their goalie getting hit.....
